Your opinions on my wedding accessories business idea?
I'm only seventeen and although it seems strange at my age Id like to start a business selling wedding accessories, stuff like ; place cards, gifts, confetti, order of service lists, personalised champagne glasses. The extra pieces that you have at the wedding reception. Id like to specialise in personalised accessories too. I plan to set up a website for my business, showing the products we offer then orders must be placed by phone or by mail order. Do you think this could work? and do you have any advice for me?

- Please rephase your question
- Of course it could work. Just do a quick Google and you'll see that there are already hundreds of people doing it already.
- ERM........NO OM IT ACTULLY SNDZ LIKE A GD IDEA MAN
- Of course it'll work. It's great to see a youngster with ambition. Be prepared for hard work but don't give up.
- Yes I think it could work, and i admire you being so ambitious. If you have a passion about something, don't let anybody try and put you off. This time next year, you could be a millionaire. Good luck
- good for you! I think if you plan carefully you will acheive your goals. People are always looking for different ideas for their weddings. I wish you every luck in the world.
- as long as people get married why not!........one day when people won't get married any more, you could brag about having been part of the old extinct world!
- its a good idea but some people might already be doing things like that? on the other hand thay might not be. i would give it a try, see how it goes, if its good, well, there's always dragons den!!! good luck in your product! __♥♥♥__
- It is great you are thinking about a business at your age, however, there are already a lot of those sites around and many stores available that sell those types of product. But, if do your research as to how much competition you have, if your prices are going to be competitive, where you are going to get a supplier at a good price, etc. If you think it is worth it then why not take the risk? It is worth it to try and you will learn a lot of valuable lessons on running a business.
- It will work as long as you can put the efford in and do it professionally, make sure you register as a company, so you can claim back tax on expenses, look into good ways to market your idea at say bridal shops etc...
- any idea will work if you do the right marketing and branding and selling. pick the right products to resell. set up relationships with several wedding sites to ensure people can get to you from their site. set up relationships with local wedding planners to recommend your site by offering them a commission if they send you customers. set up your website to be able track these referals so you can pay them. make sure those contracts offer commission payments after the customer pays you and make sure you are sill making money after all these marketng and commission payouts.
- Do you have reliable suppliers? Who will actually do the work? Are your procedures 100% in place and reliable? Lastly, it ain't enough just to put up a web site and expect business to flow there directly. There's lots of competition on the internet and, putting up a web site alone, won't make your business go. So that means you have to advertise, both on the net and as a business. Check your local zoning laws to make sure you can run a business from home. Good Luck
- No, sounds like a good idea, although I think if you do a search you will find it is not an original idea, so you will have to be keen with your pricing, or offer a very individual service....there are a lot of costs involved in setting up a website, especially one which accept payments online....I would suggest that you only accept online orders,, otherwise you will need staff to be available to answer the phone...don't forget that a wedding day is often the most memorable day in someones life, and mistakes will not be tolerated, so it needs to be an efficient operation....you will need to source things like champagne glasses and have someone to engrave them so there is a lot to think about.....but at least you are thinking...best of luck to you. You may need some money for start up costs so how about having a word with a business mentoring service if you know one.
- Yes, it would work. But be prepared for a lot of competition, as there are dozens, if not hundreds of those types of business out there already.
- yes it will, be its competitive. U could sell ur stuff on ebay this is where i got most of my table decorations and were much cheaper thean in a shop. U can also get a stand in your local wedding fayre. Good luck
- Go for it...............people are always getting married.....Good Luck!!!
- I think it's a good idea. If you have trouble started the business via website, maybe get some products made up, put them on a site like ebay.
- I think it's great that you're ambitious. But if you do a search for wedding accessories online, you will find hundreds of sites that all offer the exact same products. Why not offer stuff outside the box? In reading posts at the Knot and other wedding sites, there aren't enough creative accessories for themed weddings for example. I don't mean the same butterflies and stars that the traditional sites do. My advice is be prepared for alot of hard work. Also, make things more affordable for brides. Right now, anything that has the word "wedding" attached is automatically 10x more expensive than the same thing that isn't labelled as such, and the non-wedding item is also higher quality in most cases. If you could figure out a way to do that and still generate a profit, you'll be a success.
- Sorry. You are living in the wrong decade. The internet sells all that stuff cheap and quickly. You can't compete with the huge stores online. They will buy much cheaper and sell much cheaper. The only thing that may work is if you have something unique that you make yourself. Then someone will steal the idea if it is a good one. Sorry.
- Hallo Rodney, Of course I think this could! Marriage is like a bread, Rod, people will eat it for ever and ever whatever happens. I tried to say you have a market hungry enough and it means some not bad income for you in the near future. It is good you decide to use website (in common a blog) to promote your business. If to do things right it must become good advertising tools. Another necessary thing for retailer is good wholesaler better several. It is an element hard enough to find those because there are tons of "oneandonly's" in the field. I can send one good e-book about finding wholesalers to you if you are interested in. I have some good and proven resources in this fields and if you have an interest you can mail me without a doubt. Anyway I wish you very luck!
- I have a suggestion of merchandise for you. 10th Anniversary stuff. They just simply dont make it and alot of people these days are celebrating their 10th anniversary in grand ways, but cant find decorations for their celebrations. If you do a search for 10th ann decor you will find very few things, but 25th and 50th are in abundance. But I'll be honest, I wouldnt buy anything by calling or writing in, you need to have the service of ordering online available for your cutsomers.
- My first reaction to the basic information you gave is that there is a LOT of competition in what you are planning to do, so before you jump in, think long and hard about what you are going to offer that will make you more attractive to customers than the myriad of other people doing the same thing. My second reaction is that people who are getting married may very well want to have a face to face contact with the people supplying things like this for the biggest day of their lives. They may well want to actually see and feel the goods as well as having someone on hand that they can personally chase up as issues arise. Thus if you do not live in a large population centre where they could also come to do this then you would be a at a severe disadvantage. In life in general you will find no shortage of people who will tell you why not to do something, so be prepared for a lot of cynics and I know this from experience having started my own motorcycle accessory business, there were and still are, no shortage of pessamists around. I would however like to offer you some kind of encouragement as you have the enthusiasm and self belief that are so essential. Is there not something else that you can do that will give you a bigger chance of offering something more unique? For example where I am there are a whole load of people selling motorcycle accessories but very often cheap and cheerful items. I select only high quality items and aim at the higher end of the market as the price is genearlly more but in the long run of course good things work out cheaper as you don't replace them every few months. I also have sourced products from around the world and import them directly into this new market for the manufacturer. This gives them exposure in a place they previoulsy had none and I have sole rights on the items. Is there thus something else you have an interest in that you could build a business around? Also consider that in the wedding game you are each and every time looking for new customers, whereas for example in what I do repeat business from existing customers is a significant source of income. I would seriously encourage you try and set up a business but unless you have hit on an idea that really is different in this very competitive market then I would reccomend not trying the wedding game. Remember that what ever you do will cost you some kind of money to set up so give yourself the best fighting chance of making that money work for you.
- Hi. Good for your for your ambition. The only thing is....there are LOTS AND LOTS of sellers of the same kind of products you have listed. You will really need to do something different than the others in order to stand out. If you can think of something very unique...then it will surely be a winner! Good luck!
- Sounds like a good idea. Have you taken any business classes? Found a wholesaler? Learn all you can about taxes and laws. Not to discourage you but there are things that must be completed before you "open for business." Having a reliable wholesaler is a must. Do you plan on using a drop shipper or buying the stuff prior to reselling? In either case what is your start up costs? and who will help you with financing your expenditure? Write up a business plan first. Good luck.
- If I could sew, I would start a business offering modest, non-strapless wedding dresses and make a fortune-there are so many women on this forum that want them, cannot find them, and I would love to make sure I made their dreams came true. http://www.bloomingtonbrides.com/srch/?task=dt&rd=429
