Is it possible to get a Christian wedding ceremony outside of a church?

My partner and I are thinking about possible wedding venues. We are both strong Christians and want a Christian ceremony but do not want to get married in a church and are thinking of getting married in a manor house where we will also have the reception. Is it possible to get a vicer to marry you in a manor house? Would this include the registration as well or does someone else do this?

  1. SURE IT IS, AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A MINISTER, AND A LICENSE YOU CAN GET MARRIED ANYWHERE YOU LIKE
  2. who cares where you get married
  3. Yes you can get married on a Ship by the Captain
  4. Absolutely. I've been to Christian weddings at homes, parks, etc...
  5. Christian weddings dont have a rules about where you can or cannot get married - I know for catholics if you have a ceremony outside the catholic church they will not recognize the marriage. But for a christian wedding it doesn't matter.
  6. if it can happen on a beach!!?
  7. I wouldn`t think so as the whole point is the church is the house of God, therefore it should be there that the vows should be made. Why not look for a Manor house that has an attached chapel
  8. Yes I am a Christian it doesn't matter where you get married, even at the beach--married is married.
  9. My husband and I are both Christians, and we got married on a FERRY! We simply asked a minister (vicar) to come with us, and we 'paid for his ticket' and his wife's ticket, too, since we got married on Valentine's Day ... It is only when you are a 'full communicating Catholic' that you are 'supposed to' get married 'in a church' and even then that can be done 'elsewhere' if the priest 'approves' the site and if you have the 'full mass' that a Catholic wedding requires ... or you could just 'hire a judge or magistrate' for the actual 'wedding' and then have a 'quiet service' at your 'church of choice' to make it 'religious' too ...
  10. I think you will find that a UK civil wedding cannot mention God or any other Christian words. Such weddings need to be performed by a Registrar - not a Vicar.
  11. Sure you can. Speak to your minister, if you arent Catholic they will be able to help you either themselves or tell you who they recommend for weddings outside the church. If you are catholic, your parish minister probably wont be able to help you, BUT there are catholic priests who will marry outside the church you just have to hunt around for them. Good luck!
  12. Yeah
  13. Being married is a religious rite, but can be done in any place (for Protestants). You can ask any pastor to marry you. Of course, if you already have one, that would be best. If not, just meet with the pastor you choose and let him know the date, time, and place. They do charge a fee or donation for their service. I have seen weddings on the beach, in the back yard, and lots of places. I want to get married on a cruise ship! Wishing you both the very best!
  14. It is possible. For God is everywhere. "The Kingdom of God in within you. Not in buildings made of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and I am there. Lift a stone and you will find me." Infancy Gospel of Thomas. Good luck and congradulations!
  15. Of course! You can get married where ever you want. You can have any type of service you want too. If you want a Christian service I'm sure there is a Vicar who will do it.
  16. What is a Vicer? Is that like the Pope, I doubt you will get the Pope. So go and ask the minister of your church, if he is a Vicer, good for you, asked him if he will do the ceremony. You need to go to the court house in the city or county where you live and get the license. Marriage is controlled by the state, so after you have a license, you can have the Viceroy marry you and he will fill out the paper work after you pay him.
  17. You can basicaly get married whereever you wnat be as you have the marriage license and minister or a justice of the peace. I'm a strong believer and a christian myself and so is my wife and I would recommend a church wedding. It is way more memorable and well if you are Christian it is just a way of being closer to the blessing of God and his court when married in a church. Plus you feel more strongly bonded to your wedding vows. I think when you take your ceremony out of the church you lose some of the importance of marriage. Have your reception at the manor house but find a nice chapel or church to have the ceremony because the minister will probably charge you for his time anyways and that is usually a cost associated with using the church. One other thing alot of ministers and pastors this day and age will not marry unless you go through some sort of pre-marriage counselling so look into this with the pastor or minister you would like to use for the services. I would just recommend this counselling before marriage I did with my wife and I felt it brought us closer together and we were able to express are wants and desires in the safety of a professional and really talk about what marriage is all about. Remember sometimes it is best to get some of the cobwebs out of the relationship before you walk down the aisle. Congrats and God Bless may your day be filled with joy and goodtimes. One other tip I would give if you and your fiance are planning a honeymoon take it a week after the wedding and reception. This will allow you to just relax and enjoy yourself rather then being rushed to make a flight the next day. I hope this helps but really it is your day have it where it is going to make both of you happy.
  18. Christian ceremonies do not have to necessarily convene in a church.
  19. As long as the place has a licence and you can find a willing vicar, then why not.
  20. The pastor of a nondenominational church is comming to our home to perform our wedding ceremony. We live in a house built in the very early 1900s and it's much cheaper to have the wedding there than to spend money on another venue. Talk to pastors, search churches in your area, and ask everyone you know. It can be very discouraging, but it is worth it!
  21. You would just have to check with the minister of the church you attend.
  22. Do you have a long standing friend who is a pastor? (you or your fiance?)... that's usually the best bet for a non-church wedding... my cousin is our pastor for our wedding... we are getting married on a river, very non-traditional location but yes still christian and totally respectable...
  23. That depends on which church you're talking about. Some churches (I think Catholics do this) don't recognise weddings not performed in the church. I'm Church of Christ. I've been in Baptist churches. For those churches, you can marry anywhere and still have a Christian wedding. If you're unsure, ask your preacher/pastor/reverend.
  24. Yes is your vicar willing to marry you outside his church? you need to find out if the manor house is allowed to perform marriages Good luck have a great day
  25. yes, these days its done alover the place
