Possible change of plans...what kind of dress to wear for a winter wedding?

Okay, it is quite possible that my fiance had hoped for a July wedding date and planned accordingly, but knew all along that that might not be possible. My son and I are moving to be with him regardless, but my fiance and I might not be married until this fall or even December. My wedding-in-the-park tea-length dress is now inappropriate, and I've found another that I absolutely love. It is actually a quinceanera gown, but again, I love it. http://www.thebridalshop.com/bonny_quinceanera/5619.htm My questions are: Is the halter okay for the middle of winter? The wedding will be inside (it might even be a courthouse wedding, but I'm dressing up gosh-darn-it! ;-) ). I think the heavy lace is typical of quinceanera dresses. There is actually a cake pattern at my supermarket bakery called "the Hispanic pattern" that looks a lot like my dress! Will people be wondering why I am wearing a quinceanera dress, or will they just accept it as a pretty dress that I like? Sorry...mangled that first sentence! We'd hoped for a July wedding, but it's very possible (maybe probable) that we have to have it later. I'm not a Latina...that's why I wanted to check how people would see the dress, lol. And I've wondered the same thing about the models! (I'm actually much older than either...36, getting married for the second time. That's why I wanted some color - to just have fun with it this time!) I definitely DO want to keep the color. And I'll be giving thumbs up to anyone who isn't rude/mean, whatever the opinions are...'cause I need the opinions! :-) I haven't given any thumbs down, even to those saying the dress is too young. I should say, though, that I'm asking about halters and if the dress will immediately be spotted as a quinceanera dress. I'm not asking for opinions on the style; as I've said, I love the style. I know my fiance will love it, too. And we're definitely going for a fun, celebratory vibe.

  1. Well i dont know anything about your culture but im not hispanic and have never been to a quinceanera so when i see that dress it doesnt remind me of that, so i say go ahead and wear whatever you please. *if you think it will be cold inside the building, or while you are outside get a white shawl or something to go with it
  2. Very pretty dress!! I just have to comment on the picture though.. Why does the woman look like she's in her 20's when the girl wearing the dress (typically) would be 15? I'm sorry, I know that doesn't answer your question, but I think it's just odd!
  3. The new dress should be fine. If you're going to go outdoors at all you should get yourself a wrap, though. No one will have the slightest idea that it's a "quinceanera dress", as long as it's white or ivory. It'll just be a wedding gown!
  4. Halter is OK for any time of year. You can still wear the tea-length dress if you want, too. Your call. But since you asked about the dress and since you mentioned your age ... I think it's a bit "young" for anyone over about 21 years old. Not saying that you couldn't rock it, but I think that an adult would look foolish in something like that. I think it'd look like you're trying too hard to be a teenager or something, whether you intend it or not. I'm not trying to be mean, but I think it's too much for a classy, adult wedding. (I'm 24 and I think I'd look stupid in that, for what it's worth, so it's not just because you're in your 30s). Personally, I would look for a more "adult" formal gown - maybe a department store gown, something through Ann Taylor or J. Crew, or a bridesmaid's dress. Definitely pick something out with color if you want!
  5. I think the blue color is very appropriate for winter. The halter should be fine as long as you're not cold!
  6. well in my op... for a courthouse wedding..i dont like it..it doesnt seem appropriate for the location, and because you are 36 it would seem to look even more awkward and out of place. the dress itself is not even simple its very detailed with all the lace. It really depends on you. Are you going for more of a crazy/fun courthouse wedding or a simple elegant one. If you want the latter lose that idea and go for something simpler. how about this http://www.thebridalshop.com/Forever_Yours/38102.htm
  7. My wife suggested this dress http://www.kekopeanstitches.com/mermaid-wedding-gown.html for my cousin who's having a fall wedding in Bermuda and it can be a little on the cool side there at that time of year. A beautiful shawl could cover the shoulders and could be a consideration for you to choose. However, it's okay to wear an elegant halter wedding dress if that's what you prefer. Congratulations and best wishes!
