Wedding question?

I am going to be having a fall wedding. I like the tradition of releasing butterflies. Do you think it would be appropriate to have a wedding cake with edible fall colored butterflies and also have monarch butterflies to release? I guess it is not a good idea to release butterflies. Does any body know something else that would be special to do on that day?

  1. sounds beautiful
  2. I think the wedding cake idea sounds nice. I would discourage you from releasing butterflies. I have seen this done before and the majority end up dying and having to be tipped out on the garden (not a good look). Of the ones that do survive not many fly away in the way that people envisage- a lot actually just sit there not doing much. Plus it's a bit cruel. ADD: For other ideas- how about giving your guests sparklers to wave- they're really pretty and look great in the photos. Then there's the usual throwing items e.g. rice, confetti- but I think rose petals look really nice and are a more eco-friendly alternative to rice and confetti. Or bubble blowing or streamers.
  3. Very appropriate! If you want butterflies to be a part of your theme, go for it. I think it sounds unique and different! Congrats to you :o)
  4. Edible butterflies on the cake? That sounds fine, and very pretty. Releasing butterflies? No. No, please. Check out this article: http://www.naba.org/weddings.html Half the butterflies will be dead. That is sad, not joyous.
  5. if you look around every once in a while, butterflies are not present in the fall. if you release them then, they will surely die.
  6. Lunchbox is right...depending in where you live, you may have a bunch of dead butterflies littering the ground at your guests feet.
  7. It sounds lovely, but after reading some of the other answers, it wouldn't be nice for the butterflies. How about blowing bubbles?
  8. How come its not a good idea???? i think that is the most beautiful plan i have ever heard. but the cake is a bit to butterfly. have like fall colors though and like little butterfly statues around the cake. but it sounds beautiful anyway............... well reading the other ones know maybe just the cake and have like crepe paper butterflies.
  9. Stock up on sparklers after the Fourth. That always sounded fun to me. I agree that releasing butterflies has a bad rap (I did my research a few years ago). Some companies have "homing" doves that can be released, that are trained to fly back to them. That's pretty special.
  10. I think the cake sounds cool. Plant a tree or a butterfly bush.
