How much $ should a man spend for his Wedding Band (ring)?

I just bought a wedding band (the actual ring given on the day of the ceremony) and I am concerned that I was coaxed into buying it from my fiance, and that we overpayed. does $700 for a 14k white gold ring with a line in the center all the way around sound pricey? did we get ripped or is this how much they are? How much do you, or should you spend on it? ps I really like it, but Im not so sure now that I like it a lot so much to spend $700 on it. alright, update on the ring for those of you who read this. I am taking it back and most likely getting a tungsten ring, saving me about 600 bucks haha. Thanks for all the responses, I kind of knew it was a little pricey but screw that, its way too much $$$

  1. Well normally a guy is supposed to spend the eqivalant of one month of his salary on a ring.
  2. I think you overpayed. My jeweler told me I could get him a nice white gold ring, or titanium (what he wants) for $300. I dont plan on spending over $250!
  3. $700 just for a gold band? sounds pretty expensive. I worked at a jewelry store and they weren't that much...no more than $200 I think for just gold no diamonds or anything...sorry i think you were overcharged
  4. It's hard to say without seeing the ring, but I only paid $100 for my future husbands wedding band. Its titanium and has 2 lines around it.
  5. My wife only paid $300 for about the same thing you got... But gold price was also about $350 per troy ounce at the time... Today, it's over $900 per ounce. Sounds like an ok retail deal. You might have saved some if you knew somebody that worked in a jewelry store, but it's ok. It the sentiment that counts anyways...
  6. sounds like they over charged you . i spent 150.00 on my fiance wedding band and it has 5 diamonds in a row. it about 1/2 caret total.i bought it off ebay.
  7. wow.. i hate to say this but i honestly think you did get ripped off. we got our rings at JB Robinson jewelry store, and my hubby got a 14k yellow gold band and it was only $100! $700 sounds like waay too much. some of the men's rings go for a little bit higher if they have diamonds, but for a 14k white gold with a line.. i would think a little over $100 and that's it. look at these mens rings http://www.jbrobinson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10051&storeId=10051&categoryId=10130&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10105&pageNo=1 they're all between $69 up to a couple hundred for what you're talking about.
  8. the woman should buy it for him - and it sounds a bit much if it doesn't have a diamond in it!
  9. It all depends on where and what and quality of the ring you got. www.bluenile.com. i dont know if their rings are the finest but they have what you have in more affordable prices. To me, mens bands look the same and if its 100 to 700 i wouldnt know the difference. I know some people spend more on their jewerly to know its more than what others can afford and telling people the cost wont make them feel embarrassed. Its all in your lifestyle and choices you make...to me, its basically what we can afford at the time and would i like to wear it for the rest of my life cause it symbolizes my commitment to my husband to be. If you think its sounds pricey, you probably spend more than you attend to.
  10. Unless there are stones in your ring, I think you overpaid. My fiance wanted super-plain and he got it for $89: http://www.tungstenovernight.com/detail.cfm?mid=235&cat_id=1 I wanted to get him a 2nd "fancy" band but he didn't want it. This sounds similar to the ring you describe and is only $304: http://www.weddingbands.com/ProductPop_wedding_bands_metal/111231W.html So as a comparison point, I would say you definitely overpaid on that one you got.
