Is there significance to this kind of thumb ring?

I see certain ladies wearing thumb rings (typically silver or gold, no designs - just like a wedding band, yet thicker). Is there any significance/meaning/message trying to be conveyed with this kind of ring?

5. No. They just love to see the ring they are wearing. Thumb rings are more noticeable to the wearer than ring finger rings. They enjoy looking at it.
