If I buy Valentine's Day Hershey's candy to use for favors for my wedding, will they stay good until May?
I'm getting married May 18th, but whenever I buy Hershey's kisses/hugs/etc., I never keep them around long enough to see them go bad, so I don't know how long they last. Do you think they'd be good a little over 3 months later? Oh, the reason for buying the Valentine's Day ones is that my colors are red and white, and I've seen bags of them with red wrappers, so I thought that would be nice that it matches my colors.

- Put them in the freezer. Put the bag of candy inside a brown paper bag to prevent formation of frost.
- no
- I don't know try to ask them or just put them in the refrigerator.
- I agree, put them in the freezer, but put them WAY in the back so you don't get tempted to eat a few! I do that with Girl Scout cookies and my son's Boy Scout chocolates. Good luck and congrats!
- as long as you keep them in the sealed bag, and don't expose them to extreme temperatures (either way, hot or cold) they will be fine. DON'T put them in the fridge or freezer - they will get that white chalky film...doesn't mean it is bad or will taste bad, it's just due to the oils - but it just looks icky.
- They will still taste okay by then, but they might discolor (with a white/grayish coating). It's a good money-saving idea, but people will probably realize that it's Valentines Day candy...
- put them in a bag in the freezer and they'll be fine.
- The problem with freezing them is that when they thaw you will have moisture on them. I would say that a cool dry place (like the back of a pantry) would be the best place. As long as they are kept away from heat and moisture I would say they should still be good by May.
- As long as you store in in a place where its not that cold or not that warm just like they store it in grocery stores. always check expiration date. Too much cold when u give them it would be messy to eat after if you didnt eat it right away.... To much warm of course will melt them & deform the shape...
- I think the candy will last. Just check the expiration date and store them appropriately. Make sure they don't melt and such. The only concern I would have with this is the packaging. Some guests might be weirded out by the thought of eating 3 month only candy. I know that it doesn't make any sense, You can buy a bag of candy that has been sitting on the shelf longer at the store, but people have mind other matter issues. People might questions how old the candy is, if it clearly has a Valentine's Day package/wrapper. I think that the candy itself is fine, just make sure it's not close to or past the expiration date.
- Store chocolate in a cool, dry place in its original wrapping or wrapped in foil. Avoid storing chocolate in the refrigerator. Milk and white chocolates will keep this way for about a year. The darker varieties will keep for several years. I would recommend a higher quality of chocolate that also comes in a red wrapper, Lindt Swiss chocolate. It's not as cheap as Hershey's chocolate but Lindt is far superior in quality and taste. http://www.lindtusa.com/shop_product_detail.cfm?PID=3&PageNum_GetProducts=1
- They might be, but I am sure that they won't be as fresh as would be best. I would wait until the end of March/early April to but the candy. Plus, if you buy Valentine's candy, would'nt it have things having to do with v-day on it?
- Yes they will... but dont freeze or refridgerate them. Hersheys uses a filler in their chocolate. its like a wax. When it gets cold, the wax comes to the surface and does whats called "blooming". You know how old chocolate gets that "ashy" look to it?? Thats blooming. Keep them in a cool (not cold) dark place. Pantry, not too high (heat rises). A chocolatey alternative: www.lindtusa.com They have milk chocolates in red wrappers available year round. White chocolates have the gold wrapper. They are a lil more expensive but TOTALLY worth it quality wise. If you live in the midwest or on the east coast, there might be a retail store near you... you can go get a free sample. Otherwise they are at the grocery store or target, smaller more expensive bags though.
- They will still be good in May. If they get hot they will get that white film stuff on them. So buy them put them in a box or paper bag and store them in a dark dry place that doesnt get hot or too cold.
- They will totally be fine! I do this all the time, from holiday to holiday! Just keep them somewhere dark and not warm. Very smart of you to do this!
- They will be fine. Just store them in a place that is not too warm. DON'T REFIGERATE OR FREEZE THEM!!!! If you do the chocolate will turn white and chalky looking. There will be nothing wrong with it, but it will look old.
