wedding favors vs. candy buffet!??

orignally I had planned on using small wine glasses filled with personalized M&Ms wrapped in tulle, with a tiny silver bow at the base of each wine glass.I was going to have the wine glasses already on tables at each place setting. I have already bought all the wine glasses (6 for $1 at the dollar tree) ... but now I am really liking the idea of a Candy Buffet. Which idea do you like better? My wedding colors are lilac, silver, ivory and a tiny touch of pink. do you think it would be hard to find candy in these colors?? any opinions, advice, or suggestions are appreciated!!? I never thought I'd get stressed out over candy! :) for those of you who don't know: a candy buffet would be an entire table filled with different size vases and each vase would be filled with a different candy... hope that helps! also, a candy buffet will NOT take place of the cake!

  1. I like the place settings better than the buffet.....it just looks classier!
  2. I think you could get away with doing both. Maybe just have something besides M&M's on the buffet. Congrats on your upcoming nuptuals!
  3. I agree place settings are so much prettier
  4. You can special order special colored m&m's on the m&m website. Google it. The original wine glass idea sounds better to me... sounds less expensive, but more personalized. You are already going to have a cake right? No need for a candy buffet (if that truly is what it sounds like... haha).
  5. I did a candy buffet and my guests absolutely loved it. There was very little left by the end of the night. I got all of our candy at candywarehouse.com. They let you search by color at the following link: http://www.candywarehouse.com/candycolors.html The prices are good and they had it to my house within a week. EDIT - If you set up a candy buffet well - with pretty glass jars filled with colorful candy matching your decor - it actually looks really pretty.
  6. I'm getting married in May, and I was going to do the same things with the m&m's in the little wine glasses, but I think that a candy buffet is a really good idea! I'd go for it I think if you shopped around enough you could find candy in your colors!! breathe..I know it's stressful but it will all be alright good luck!!
  7. The individual favors will be more work to make, but I agree - they're classier. M&Ms are available in lots of colors. You can even have your own message printed on them. http://www.mymms.com/customprint/?src=111831&sc_cid=C_MC_37_N00_MAC80N00CMC37111
  8. I like the candy buffet better and if you're wedding is after Easter, you could stock up on Easter candy, because it's usually in those colors.
  9. I like that place setting better and it something that your quest can keep as a keepsake
  10. I would do the M&M's. It would save you money. Besides some people are diebetic and cannot have a lot of surgar. If you have kids at the wedding, they will go nuts when they see all that candy, and will be hyper all night.
  11. I thought your first plan was a cute idea. I've never heard of a candy buffet. I guess if I knew what it was I'd probably give ya better advice. Congrats on the future wedding.
  12. Hi. I would keep your idea with the m&m's. And another idea...don't waste your money on the personalized ones. They are so much more expensive. Simply get the ones in your "colors." I know when I am at a wedding, I simply open these up and start popping them in my mouth. In my opinion, no one will notice (or be impressed) with the personalized ones. Good luck!
  13. If you're getting married in the spring, lilac and pink candy will be easy to find since those are Easter colors. Be prepared to buy a ton of candy, much more than you think you'll need, and pick out the colors you don't need. I don't drink wine and I honestly don't know anyone else who does, so if I was a guest, I would take the favor home but I'd eat the candy and the glass would probably collect dust in the cabinet since I wouldn't know what to do with it.
  14. I'd do the wedding favors, since you already have the stuff for it. Why make things more difficult? The candy buffett is a cute idea but keep in mind, if you have small children present, they WILL get their grimy hands in it. Every one I've seen has had candy spilt on the floor. It's just not very classy. Your colors would be hard to shop for...where are you going to find silver and ivory candy? LOL Good luck
  15. Both ideas sound great. Is your wedding kid friendly, if so, keep in mind that they will likely ravage a candy buffet.
  16. Do the place settings!! Very cute.
  17. I think the favors would be better, there already made and you don't have to worry about finding candy in your colors !
  18. Just thought but why don't you do both? Or a version of both.... set each wine glass at the table with the tulle and bow tied, just leave them empty and have guest fill their own? Then they can pick and chose which candy they like and your still only filling a wine glass so you don't need that much candy? You can have just a few different kinds! Jelly beans, taffy, sour drops, gummie bears, fudge, can also come in many colors. You can also do your favorite candy and the grooms. It doesn't have to match!
  19. Candy buffet. The colors of your wedding have many options. Try bulkcandy.com good prices and some special candy for weddings. Be sure to order small bags with ties or boxes with your names and date would be a unique favor. The buffet table could be set up with silver and crystal bowls and vases, with flower petals scattered about. Have some silver serving utensils for each candy. Very classy looking.
  20. Why don't you use the wine glasses as the thing that the candy goes into? That would look pretty cute, and you could post a little framed sign with a rhyme on it or something saying that the candy goes in the wine glasses as a thankyou for being a guest.
  21. Really the personalized m&m's are a total waste of money. They are so common now that you don't get the "That is so cool!" factor anymore so why are you paying an extra $30 or so a bag to have your names on them? Nobody cares and would be just as happy with regular M&M's in your colors. Think too....what is somebody going to do with a single wine glass after the wedding? usually you need at least two to be usuable. I think the candy buffet would go over much better. Return the wine glasses and exchange them for some white (they are actually cream) lunch sacks or small silver gift bags with the handles. Then go to the craft store and pick out a pretty stamp (or get one custom made) and use lilac ink to dress up the bags and some lilac paper to attach the "Thank You" Tags. Provide some pink tissue to put the candy in. For candy find things that are silver, white, and touches of the pink and lilac. You'll find tons of options in that color. If you find a candy that doesn't match (maybe your husbands favorite is gummi bears?) then you can just line the containers with tissue in the colors or paint them solid so the candy colors don't show through as much.
  22. I would use the wine glasses as the containers for the candy buffet. This will limit the amounts of candy that your guests will take. I just did a candy buffet, it was our 10 year anniversary, and we chose 10 candies we both liked, that way if there were leftovers, we could enjoy them! We had about 45 guests, no children, and we had about 5-8 pounds per flavor. I did 5 that were wrapped, and 5 that were unwrapped, and I had a scoop/tong for each candy. All 10 candies fit on one table, plus the cake, along with a dozen cupcakes between the containers. (Our cake was decorated to look like the invitations, so it had our names and the date, it was a simple sheet cake.) I had the candies out the whole time. Adults enjoyed it to munch on during the party, and also took a small organza bag full home to the kids. We had about 1/2 leftover. How many guests are you having at your wedding? You may want to consider the price per guest, and do some homework on the cost before continuing. If you already have the wine glasses, and all you need is the m&ms, have you measured how much candy you will need? And, don't forget to measure out the ribbon and tulle into the amount. As for the candy buffet, look into what flavors you want, and price it out. The other answerers are right-you can get candy (including m&ms!!) super cheap after a major holiday--Valentine's Day, Easter. Smaller containers will need to be filled more often, but then that could save you on having too much candy...so maybe you can have someone assigned to checking the candy amounts? Large, glass containers are attractive, but I used galvanized tin/buckets (97c at Walmart, in the vase section!). I made signs for each candy, ribbons on the scoops, decorating the table with my color theme. Also consider how will guests take their candy home-can they use the wine glasses, or will you have bags? Will you only have the candy on display in the later evening, or will you have it out the whole reception? Don't forget to figure in the kid factor: do you have a lot of little ones...do you want them carrying around a "glass" full of candy...? You could make a sign that said something like, "Please have a treat on us, and remember to save some for everyone!" It depends on the "theme" of your wedding. For our anniversary party, we had a casino theme, so the decor was red/black/white. The candies were in multi colors (m&ms, whoppers, peppermints, skittles, jordan almonds, etc)-that's why I used the tins in the same silver color, and the signs, cake and decorations tied the theme into the candy buffet. Maybe you can find containers in your colors, and then use any candy you want? Or just decorate each container with colored ribbons? Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I've thrown lots of parties, and for me the candy buffet was unique, so that's why I had it for our anniversary-we wanted that it to be fun and playful for adults!! :)
  23. candy buffet because it is different, put tealights in the wineglasses instead.
  24. congrats on the upcoming wedding! you've already bought the glasses so why not go with that? your settings will look very pretty with the candyfilled glasses. as for colours - look to jellybellies - lots of candies out there with colour! doing the glasses will also give you better control over the cost per guest! if you do a buffet you could easily spend a fortune on candies! far easier and more cost effective to do the individual glasses sweetie! it will be pretty as a picture! happy wedding!!
  25. Daont waste you money nobody cares
  26. Frankly, I find the candy buffet idea really stupid. I like your original favor idea MUCH better.
  27. I'm actually doing both! I'm doing some inexpensive favors that I found on eBay and plan to do an inexpensive candy bar as well. As far as your colors, you can't go wrong with some jelly beans or Skittles. Good luck!
