What do you think of Candy Apples as wedding favors?

My step daughter is getting married in Fall 2008. She was thinking of having Candy Apples as her wedding favors until a couple of people at her work said they didn't think it was a good idea. Personally, I think the idea is fun, unique, season appropriate and reflective of their personalities. However, the bottom line is they want something which will be well received by the guests. What do you all think. Yes or no on the candy apple idea?

Public Comments

  1. i think thats a great idea
  2. I think its great! Its creative and fun for the fall!
  3. mmmmm candy apples *drools*
  4. NO, childish and tacky.
  5. I like it.. it's different and I enjoy seeing that done.
  6. I completely agree with you mom. It is totally a unique and fun idea. I am not sure where you live but there is a store in Canada called Rocky Mountain Chocolate Facotry and they do the most amazing apples. Apples dipped in carmel than in hard chocolate. Rolled in Skor or Smarties or any other fun candies. Even if you are making them yourself you should checkout their website for some fun ideas. Don't listen to those negative people. The idea is fun, unique and certainly delicious. Good Luck!!
  7. What a great idea...maybe also suggest to her that she could do a mixture and do caramel apples to....not everyone likes candy apples, but with both...they have a choice. Have her print out the bride a grooms names and date on paper then laminate them and puch a hole in it and tie it to the handle of the candy apple with a ribbon that matches their wedding colors.
  8. My cousin did that at her wedding. I thought they were great favors! Going to have them at my wedding
  9. Some people will have diabetes. Others will have dental problems. Personally, when I eat a candy apple, it makes me sick, so I don't eat them any more, but when I did it was always a problem with the hard candy part. Try to go with something that will do the least amount of harm. A nice vegetable dish with various dressings usually goes pretty well. Stuffed celey and such, carrots, etc. While it is a unique idea, not all ideas are workable. Imagine the effect of having what 50 people all munching on these candy apple things. Plus, they are sort of awkward to eat, and sticky. and i assume many will have nice clothes on. Good luck. This was certainly an interesting question. I had never considered before.
  10. I think that it's a cute idea and it beats the daylights out of some of the truly tacky and cheap things that have been foisted on me over the years. I would have preferred nothing or something small and edible - the memories of the wedding itself were enough. Food is always a good idea for favors - you consume it and it's gone.
  11. What a cute, original wedding favor, I love the idea, i bet her guests will too.
  12. I like it, your right it's fun, different and cool. tell her to go for it.
  13. Basically it's a good idea. But let me ask, are they inviting grandparent or perhaps older relatives and friends? Older folks tend to have caps, crowns and dentures in their mouth and candy apples, either hard candy or chewy, will not be well received by them. If I went to a wedding and got a candy apple I would think "How cool and different" and them give it to my kids or grand kids. The bottom line is a good quest should be appreciative of the gesture and receive it with an open heart.
  14. Yes it's cute http://weddings.theknot.com/odb/themes/realweddings/detailview.aspx?id=17519&type=3&wedding_details=Favors
  15. I think it would be a fun and a certainly different wedding favor. However when I think of candy apples, I think a carnival clown might pop out somewhere. But you know what? it is her wedding and her day. So, everyone better eat those candy apples and they better to like it! :)
  16. I think it's very nice and I have seen it done with Fall weddings before. You know what- do what you want. You'll never make everyone happy! And they can give their's to their kids or someone else if they don't like it. It's the thought that counts!!
  17. I think if she buys them, it might be a good idea. Anything edible is usually a good favor. But if you're going to make them, it will be hard and a lot of work.
  18. I think this is a fabulous idea! Its so perfect for that time of the year. Plus she wont be limited to just one type of flavor, they can really personalize this gift and used cute names on each different flavor. Something that has their names in it or having to do with fall. LOVE IT!
  19. it a great idea, it cute fun and simple. its also a good one if there are going to be kids there. i like it
  20. That is a very great idea!
  21. I would think that is so clever when I saw it on the table, but to be honest, I doubt I would eat it, I would probably throw it in the grabage, but only because of the teeth aspect, I like myself, my husband and kidss to have all their teeth and I associate candy apples with broken teeth! But I like the idea of them!
  22. I think candy apples would be a very cute favor, esp since your daughter is getting married in the fall! very cute.
  23. I think it sounds fun! But if you are concerned why not get a bunch of those baby pumpkins and hollow them out and put a votive candle in each one? The guests can take them home at the end of the night and relight at home for the rest of the season. You could paint the guests name on the them for the seating.
  24. oh my i love it you could do a mix of candy and carmel apple. how fun now i wish my wedding was in the fall so i could do the same! it's no differant than those nasty covered almond wedding favor except they are fun and taste better. DO IT!!!! they are perfect favors. i'm so bummed now my wedding is in june:( good luck!
  25. i think it's cute and unique, good idea
  26. Thats a great idea for a fall wedding. I never would have thought of that. Congrats on the wedding. O, and also remember she can do what she wants its HER wedding.
  27. Too messy if they open them there, too hard for guests to take home. It's a way cute idea, but not practical. How about those suckers that taste like caramel apples - you can get them at Hallowe-en, but some places might have them for all year round.
  28. Cute but too messy. Children and some adults will want to eat them right there at the reception and it logically follows that much of the treat will end up on their clothes. Ugh.
  29. I think it is a great idea. I am using them for my wedding on May 12, 2007. I am having trouble finding someone to make them, but the only problem I can think of associated with the candy apples is the elderly people in attendance. They may not be able to eat them, because they have dentures...that was my only concern about it when I was thinking. Candy apples are sooo good, I think she should go for it. Oh I just found a wholesaler who makes them for $1 each here is the address http://www.candyapples.ca/products.asp#apples. I hope this helps, they deliver as well to some locations:) GOOD LUCK:)
  30. I'm not a fan of wedding favours at all.... party favours are for small children's birthday parties! But if you have to have them... please don't make it something sticky like that! Candy apples are something you eat at the fair.. wearing jeans.. not your best dress clothes! If she goes through with the idea, make sure they are well wrapped so they can be taken home.. I don't want sticky candy mucking up my car either.
  31. DEFINETLY!!!!! A great Idea......I am a bride getting married this september and the Idea just came to me,( how about candy apples, one on each plate wrapped in celaphane and tulle with a ribbon) and I called my mom and Fiance and they loved the idea.......and you can get tags made with their name and date. I love the idea and infact the only way I read your posting was because I googled the idea, and your question just popped up. I think its fun, new, and who wouldnt enjoy a candy apple or gourmet apple when they get home after a fun wedding. Its a great idea and you can do so much with it. Good luck
