Need more ideas for a country wedding with sunflowers...?

Our wedding is going to have a country (not cowboy) theme with lots of sunflowers. We are going to put sunflowers in mason jars, use baby food jars for votive size candles, serve old fashioned lemonade from metal washtubs and have a cookout instead of a church reception, use lots of raffia where ribbon would usually be and use yellow rose petals are added decoration. We thought of having antique family photos here and there. Any other ideas? We are only have a few people at our wedding and we are trying to spend very little while still making it nice.

  1. Congradulations!! ON THE ONCOMING DATE OF YOUR COUNTRY WEDDING!!!Sounds so cool. and yes it sounds nice. There is so much you can do on a wedding like this and still have a pretty wedding without spending a lot of money on. homemade is the way to go, definetly!weddding keepsakes such as a wedding poem rolled up in twine and lil' sunflowers would be nice.It would be interesting to know all the details, so I could give more suggestions so, if you need me , just e-mail! HOPE YOU THE BEST !!!
  2. Using sunflowers is a great idea . . putting them in mason jars is a terrible idea. Using baby food jars ANYPLACE, especially at a wedding, shows poor taste. You can buy votive candle holders and bright yellow and brown votive candles at the dollar store . . and that will look a 100 times better (and more colorful) than using a baby food jar! Please don't use baby food jars at your wedding. Put big clusters of sunflowers in watering cans, all shapes and sizes (old metal or new metal) or just simple glass vases (that can be purcased at the dollar store or discount store) . . and then wrap the raffia around the glass vases several times for a decorative effect. Sunflowers are bright yellow and dark brown . . so there's where you want to expand your decorations. Since you are having a cookout put two napkins at each place setting . . bright yellow and dark brown. You can show off the two colored napkins by placing them on top of each other in opposite directions. Put some bright yellow or dark brown candles, a group of three or five column candles, in the center of each dinner table and then put loose hay or straw around them. And then put some wrapped carmels (brown) or candy corn (bright yellow) or wrapped butterscotch pieces on the outside perimeter so your guests can help themselves to the candy. Plus have several big glass jars filled with "yellow and brown" candies on a table with cellophane bags so your guests can help themselves during the reception and as a favor as they leave . . everybody likes FREE candy. The colors of your sunflower theme (bright yellow and brown) should POP everyplace. Just putting a few things "here and there" won't make an impression. Besides serving lemonade, you should also serve root beer (brown). Think BROWN and YELLOW like trays of brownies . . chocolate chip cookies . . lemon bars . . and lemon glazed sugar cookies. Corn on the cob is yellow . . deviled eggs are yellow . . pineapple chunks are yellow . . and baked beans are dark brown. You don't have to spend a lot of money on your reception theme BUT you do need to expand your theme colors. 3. sunflower seed packets so guests can take them home and grow their own sunflowers in your honor
  4. There have been a lot of great ideas already here are a few more. If your reception is inside you can you can place your napkins on the table fully opened so that you see a triangle on the top of the table and the other half of napkin is a triangle that flows down the tablecloth at each place setting . When the whole table is done you have a lot of color and a star is formed ( like a quilt) You could alternate napkins on a table or at every other table. Get country themed cotton fabric (sunflowers etc) and create table runners and flags or wall hangings. There is iron on tape or fabric glue that you can create the seams for a nice finished look if you don't sew. Fabric adds a lot of color and interest for a minimal expense. Plus some of the items might double as gifts for people that help with the wedding.
  5. I think your idea is adorable! I have a few ideas for you. First of all, I think if you take the labels and all the glue off of the baby jars and tie the raffia around it in a bow that would be adorable and very "country"! I aslo think you should keep the candles all white...you don't want the brown and yellow thing to get too overwhelming and busy. More class, less color. Plus if you stick to white it will be easier to match everything else to. If your reception is outside then hanging lanterns from the trees would be a really great idea. it would add a lot of ambiance! And I don't know what kind of tables you were thinking of using but I just saw in the People magazine that Rebecca Romin used wooden pic nic tables and the pictures were adorable. Plus with the candles and sunflowers it would look really nice. I don't think you should over do the theme by having all yellow and brown foods. Just have what you want, and what sounds good to you. Another fun idea would be to have bobbing for apples out of the metal washtubs for the children who will be attending...I bet you would get some adorable pics out of that and the kids would have a blast. Keep it simple, light and airy for your country wedding theme. Have fun and let me know if you need any more ideas. Hope these were useful to you.
