Candles for pew decorations for my wedding?

I am getting married in an extremely fancy catholic church and I'm not wanting to go all out on flowers because it will be too much...I was thinking about doing candles down each side of the isle instead of pew bows or flowers on each pew. The church is huge so I was thinking about doing something only at every other pew to save a little bit of money. I've seen some kind of stand that holds like a glass "globe" maybe that holds a candle...I can't think of the name of them. Was wanting to know if any of you know what I'm talking about and what's the proper name for them and if any of you have seen them or even used them and what you think of them? Or any other ideas on how to use candles for pew decorations? Any advice is greatly appreciated!! yes it is allowed at the church i asked the priest last night

  1. idk srry
  2. Before you look too much into it, check with the church to make sure it's allowed. They might not want flame that close to wood pews. (Unless you were thinking of going with the 'fake' candles that are really battery-operated lights.) If it's OK with them, look at patio decorations for ideas. I've seen some stakes that hold a bowl on top for candles, but these obviously wouldn't indoors (I'm sure poking holes in the floor is a no-no.. lol), but you may be able to find some stands.
  3. I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about, although I don't know the proper name. Is it something like this?: http://x06.xanga.com/4070605b513a028184120/b12200805.jpg I seriously contemplated having these down the aisle of my outdoor ceremony because I didn't want flowers, either. I was going to either keep the water its natural color, or dye it blue (my wedding color) for an added touch ... or maybe even put in some rocks in place of the flowers. However, I decided against it because it's outside, and I didn't want to worry about the ground not being level enough to make the vases sturdy. However, if I was having an indoor wedding, I would definitely want to have these as a decor item in lieu of flowers. I think it makes a stronger statement, and will only make the venue more romantic and intimate. I think you should go for it!
  4. Check with your church because many already have candle holders that attach to the pews for special services and they may be willing to allow you to use them. Our church allows member couples to use ours for their weddings, but we don't allow non-members to use them. Talk with the priest and see what he is willing to allow, you may only need to purchase a box of candles or pay somebody to set them up. Best wishes!!!!!!!!
  5. Hi and congratulations! Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about, as I work as a church secretary. These can be rented. If you live in a larger city, see if your florist has these for rent. I live in a small town and even here, there is a florist that has these. They ARE expensive to rent, though. See this listing: http://www.aaarental.com/catalog/item.asp?ITEM_ID=70&DEPARTMENT_ID=53 I am Catholic myself and know that many of the Catholic churches are very pretty as they are. The candles ARE a nice idea, but if too expensive....really, I like the bows on every other pew. They look really nice. OR, simply do not have anything. My son and daughter-in-law did not have anything marking the pews and their wedding was just as nice as any other one I have been to that did have aisle decorations. Another thing, unless it is a night wedding, you won't get the full "ambiance" with the candles. I went to a wedding where they did have the candles and you didn't really notice because it was during the day and was sunny. Good luck with whatever you decide!
  6. Just be sure the aisle is wide enough for you to be escorted down it without your dress tipping any of the stands. You'd be surprised at how much room it takes for two people to walk side by side, especially if your dress is full. You could consider just greenery with perhaps one flower and a lacy bow on every fourth row of pews.
