What is the procedures for preparing a church wedding? (S'pore)?

Our church wedding tentative date is March 2008. What should we start preparing first? Currently, nothing is done yet. Our budget is about $10,000 for the below-mentioned plannings. That's all we have. I'm a buddhist and he is a catholic, so from what I know, i have to convert. How long will it take? And we have to take pre-marriage course, right? Only immediate families and close friends will be invited for a simple wedding lunch or dinner. We need to renovate his whole room as I will be moving in to stay with my future mother-in-law and his brother. Need to get wedding rings as well as the gown and suit. And I really want to take studio photos as a memory. Misc - Decorations for the church? It's seems like I know what to do but I don't.

  1. You need to decide which church you want to get married in. Then both of you need to talk to someone from the church. Then you need to find out if you are going to have a party afterwards if so you need to check on different places for openings and then find out about what colors you want the wedding to be and then find out about food and pictures and cakes and ect. GOOD LUCK! LOL Have fun!
  2. I'm not Catholic, but I am Lutheran. Both have to be confirmed in order to convert so to speak. You'll need to talk to his priest about your confirmation. This could take weeks or up to a year if you follow through traditionally. As for the wedding itself, you'll need to find a church and reserve the day. You'll need to find a priest to marry you and he'll guide your through marriage counseling. I'd hold off until the middle of this year before buying a gown. Start looking now, but hold a bit on the actual decision. You want to make sure it's still going to fit and alterations can only do so much. :) He would be best to reserve/rent a suit a couple months before the wedding for alterations and such. My husband and I didn't get our rings picked out until about a month before the wedding. That's all personal choice, but if the rings need to be sized or special ordered, make sure you have a couple months advance. Take the photos whenever you like. It would be nice to do it now so you could hand them out as an engagement announcement. Decorations are probably the easiest. Start looking and planning now. Get a good idea of what you want and how to place it in the church. If you have a wedding planner, she'll do most of your work. If you and family or friends will be decorating, be sure to visit the church prior to the wedding to plan it out. For lunches and dinners, call for reservations a few weeks before the wedding depending on the restaraunts. Also, if you plan on having a reception, you're going to need to reserve a place if there isn't one in the church. Keep in mind, you probably won't be able to have wine/spirits at the church. :) I hope this helps! And best wishes!
  3. Ok, let's start from the beginning. When your preparing for a wedding that is just under a year away, and you've got the budget set then it's time to figure out who you want to be the attendants in the wedding. You will have to decide what colors you will have for the wedding, a theme if you've wanted one. Then when it comes to the idea that you've got to convert, that isn't always true. You do not have to convert to Catholic no more than he'd have to convert to being a buddhist. The religons aren't as strict about that as they used to be. You could actually have a combined ceremony that celebrates both of your religons. BUt if you do choose to convert, the classes normally are about 2 months long and that also includes taking pre marriage courses along with that. You have to have your wedding dress at least five months in advance so that you can get it altered and have all the things you've wanted done to it done. Your groom will be able to have his suit ready no later than 2 months before the wedding, and two weeks prior to the wedding he and his attendants will have their final fittings so that they know the suit will fit, they can also go in about a week prior if they feel they may gain or loose weight before the wedding. Renovating his room to make room for you and your things is always a good idea. Just make sure that you've kept alittle of each of you in the room. Getting the wedding rings, that should be a task done with both of you right away. That way the rings are in your possession and you can have them put in a safe place until the day you will need them. Taking photos in a studio is normally taken for the engagement shots, and the bridal portrate. Normally you have your engagement shots taken within a few months of announcing the engagement and then making sure at least one picture makes it to the newspaper so you can announce your engagement and pending wedding to the entire town. The Bridal Portrate is taken within a few weeks of the wedding, normally in a photographers studio and is sometimes used on the table with the guest book. Other shots can be taken at the time of the ceremony sometimes before and then some after. When decorating the church, there are the ideas of pew bows, flowers and such. Check with the church your holding the ceremony at before deciding on what to get since you need to make sure it's ok with them to use them. Then it's time to decide if you want to use pewbows, flowers and candles. You can also use an aisle runner when the day of the wedding comes. I would also suggest for the flower girls to drop artificial flowers rather than real ones as real ones can stain carpets. Congrats and good luck
