Can't Upload Movies Onto Itunes?

I just got an 80 GB ipod for xmas. I downloaded Itunes 7.5. I have a Windows XP. I put the DVD, Wedding Crashers, into the top DVD drive that says DVD ROM on it. When I put it in, the computer made a weird noise, and then a link popped up and asked if I wanted to play the movie using windows media player or another file(ITunes didn't pop up). I clicked on using another file, trying to find the link for itunes. When I found the itunes link and clicked it, it didn't work for me. Anybody know how to fix my problem? 2. iPod supports MP4 format, so you need to convert DVD movies to iPod video MP4 and iPod audio MP3 and M4A, and then drag them to your iPod with the sync of iTunes Library, which can be downloaded on http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ for free.
