Can wedding planners do it all on a tight budget? We are on a tight budget, about $5000. We have not decided if we would like a destination wedding, or a more local one, but although I am crafty and would like to handle certain aspects of the wedding (ie, Flowers, invites), I don't even want to think about the location(s), rentals, food, details, music etc. Is a wedding planner in our budget? Or would it be too much of a loss to our tiny budget?
How long does a wedding planner need to plan a wedding? I am in the process of developing my own wedding planning business and have got many things worked out except for timing. Just a few questions - how long does a wedding planner need to plan a wedding? Is there a specific amount of time the wedding planner should plan the wedding in? How often should the planner meet with the client and over what length of time? Just anything at all about timing and wedding planning would be great. What is the best way to do it? Also, I am going to be a more budget-friendly planner, not charging heaps so any marketing advice would be helpful too. Anything you know is much appreciated. Thanks!
How do I find a wedding planner in Maryland to do a destination wedding on a budget? I recently got engaged and I would like to have a wedding planner help me plan my destination wedding in Trinidad for a guest list of about 200-250 with approxiamtely $20,000(US) to work with, which translates to $120,000(TT). I'm based in the DC/MD metroplotian area and I want to get married July 4 of 2009. I know that this is not going to be easy but I want to give myself and my family a day to remember. The budget is small because we are trying to do it ourselves with our going into debt so that's all we can afford. I'm hoping to find a planner that wont cost me more than the cost of my wedding. Everyone that I've contacted is very pricey and they want me to cover the cost of them and their help and they want to make more than one trip down there. So is there anyone out there that can help me or am I just gonna have to attempt the impossible by myself?
How do I find a Maryland wedding planner that can plan a Caribbean destination wedding on a budget? Although I know that it would make sense to use a planner from Trinidad, I don't like the fact that I can't be there in person when they make decisions. So, the alternative is to find a Maryland planner that is able to work with a Trinidad planner, but then my issue is still where do I find this planner?

Is it better to have a wedding planner or go it alone? Ok so YAY me (Blake) and Tyler are getting married!! I'm so excited! it going to be a very very long engagement but what I am wondering is with a low income, do you think its better to get a wedding planner to help with the budget, or better to try an do this on our own. I want the wedding to be perfect. we aren't getting married until my relationship with my parents is better so that my dad can walk me down the isle. but anyway what should we do, wedding planner or no?
How hard is it to plan a wedding without a wedding planner? I am getting married next year, and trying to cut costs as much as possible, so I am not hiring a wedding planner and am trying to plan it all by myself on a limited budget. I own my own consulting business and I work a full time desk job, so I don't have a whole lot of time to sit down and spend on this wedding. Any ideas on how to make it cheap and simple for me? See... the thing is my consulting business takes up most of my weekends and evenings. I have control of my hours, but the more hours I cut, the less money I have to use for the wedding. Oh... and I would love to elope and just send everyone a postcard with our photo... LOL. But he's the first born, first married of his siblings and it's a big thing to him for his family to be there with us to watch us get married, and they can't afford to take a trip to whatever destination we chose to watch us get married there.
What price would a you pay for a wedding planning or wedding day coordination? If you are considering hiring a wedding planner to plan your entire wedding, what price would you pay and what would you expect from them? If you have already planned your wedding, but would like to hire a wedding day coordinator to make sure that everything goes the way you envisioned it, what price would you be willing to pay? Complete wedding planning usually costs 10% of your wedding budget and wedding day coordination is usually $750, is that reasonable - would you pay that price for a stress-free wedding?
Wedding planners for tight budget couples...? If you havent noticed, I go and answer questions only in the wedding area. While planning my best friends wedding, I realized that many people can't afford a wedding planner from beginning to end...and the bride ends up planning most of the wedding and getting 90% of the stress and not enjoying the process. I think that every couple should be able to consult with a planner for nothing...and since i'm currently trying to build a portfolio, me giving couples free answers on here, lets my imagination run and helps me add new ideas to the portfolio. If i don't know the answer I can either direct you to someone who does or where to find the answer. Sometimes I might just find the answer for you. You shouldn't have to stress out and not enjoy this big day just because you are on a budget So if you have wedding questions...ask away! I have a love for weddings so this is actually something that i find interesting and don't mind spending my free time helping you out! Soooo get asking everyone
Should I hire a wedding planner? I am currently overseas trying to plan a wedding stateside (Military). It is working out ok but I am having to have family go check out vendors ect. I also work LONG hours and it's hard to coorelate times due to the time difference. I know that I can give a wedding planner a budget, tell them what I want, and they will try thier best to do it. I also heard that they can get deals with vendors and possibly save me some $$ in that aspect. I just can't imagine trying to put everything together and ensuring it runs smoothly the days leading to my wedding and my wedding day!!! Does anyone know how much they cost? Is it beneficial? Thanks!
Advice on how to handle the wedding planner.? I hired a wedding planner back in March to help me with my wedding. Because she is new at wedding planning, maybe like 3 weddings under her belt..her fee was 600 dollars. My mother was taking care of the bulk of everything. I was in charge of the center pieces, the wedding cake, limo, flowers and decorations. I was also a full time student finishing my last semester in college. My time had to be devoted to school.. Here is my problem. I told my wedding planner that I was working with a 3000 dollar budget to do my part...The flowers and cake are taken care of. However do to an illness and flooding in our basement I had to use some of my wedding budget to fix the house...Which is fine to me. My wedding planner is mad because she said that she was counting on the money to use for my wedding...Why would she care?? Less work for her right? She says that since I am breaking the 3000 dollar contract, that she can't work for me anymore....my Wedding is in 58 days,,,Advice?

What does a wedding planner/event coordinator usually help with? I'm not getting married, but I'm interested in the wedding business and wedding planning for others, as well as coordinating other events. I've always been good at making sure people get what they want/need, finding places, stretching a budget and making things convenient for people, so I thought I'd be a natural at this job. What are the things they're most often expected to do/help with?
Is it necessary to get a wedding planner? Me and my fiancee are planning to get married in Denver this April, and have a budget of around $10,000. I realize this is a very small budget but we still want to be able to do things nicely so we cannot waste alot of money. Both of us have almost no experience with weddings so there is alot of room for us to make mistakes, so we would like to hire a planner but are aprehensive of the cost so we would not want to do it unless it is completely necessary
Should I get a wedding planner? I have no idea what to do when it comes to planning for a wedding. Should I do my own research or hire a wedding planner. We are on a tight budget, so would it be useful? How much do they range from? Please any suggestions!!
does anyone know of a great wedding planner in the Tampa area? We are planning a smallish wedding in March 2008. We are looking to budget at or less than 20k total. Since we both work full time and most of our family and friends are from out of town, we need help with the coordination and will definitely need help on the wedding day. ....looking for someone who is willing to work on a simpler ceremony and who can provide both great creative input and references.
wedding planner software? Does anyone know if a program like this exsists? A program for beginning event/wedding planners that is interactive. Like gives you a budget to follow, choosing all decor for wedding, doing the budget, and that throws problems in for the planner to figure out? Its all on the computer but is meant to give the person a "real world" feel of the job. Does this even exsist?
budget wedding reception decoration tips? Hi!! My friend is doing a wedding reception for his sister and her husband. He asked me for help about decorating the place. I gave him a few ideas but we still would like more ideas though. So far, we decided on food, music, and making our own centerpieces for the tables (round). But the hall is dark with no windows (it's in a church) and we want to decorate it like lighting, tulle, balloons, and maybe flowers (but prob not b/c of budget). We were wondering if anyone of u guys have some ideas abt how to decorate the room though since the color of wall is just this: http://www.tri-valley.k12.il.us/sjones/plywood.jpg We can't go beyond the limit of like $1000 and would like to cut down expenses whenever we can. And plz keep in mind, that we are the only ones doing the decoration not some wedding planners, etc. So guys, do you have any ideas about how to decorate this? Any other ideas/tips would help too ^_^ PS: we were thinking abt having red and either white/tan color for tables

Wedding planner or no wedding planner? I am wondering weather to hire a wedding planner or not, I was thinking it might help to stay on budget and get better deals... Care to share your thoughts?

Wedding Planner? I am looking for a good wedding planner. I have a high budget so I am not worried about the price. Can anyone tell me any celebrity wedding planner or good ones. Thanks
Hiring a Wedding Planner/Coordinator? The budget of my wedding is about $15,000 for 150 people. I'd like to do a lot of things DIY. Including all the centerpieces and reception invites. I'd like to print my own placecard and ceremony programs, etc. I have a really great home computer and printer, plus my maid of honor has experience with Photoshop and other at home publishing/design programs. She also went to college for advertising. I might spend on the invites, but I haven't decided yet. I thought a wedding planner would be helpful, b/c often they have ideas and techinques the normal bride would not know. In addition, I have a amazing reception site picked out. But, they have two rooms. One for weddings that are 150 or less and one for 150 plus. I hate the 150 under room, it's too small and too tight. Literally, 150 is the max according to fire code and it's very tight. I peeked at a wedding in there, everyone was on top of one another. I was thinking a good wedding planner in my area, might be able to pull some strings and get us the room. Since people in the biz have connections and such. Not sure though, just a thought. So, is a wedding planner worth hiring for a wedding that is only 15K? I always thought they were for those with at least 50K+ weddings. How much do they cost? On average? Yes, I do want the bigger room. Sorry, I was trying to cram everything. I want the bigger one, b/c even though we are within fire code, I don't want my guests sitting, eating and dancing on top of one another. Plus, as the bride. I want to be able to walk about the room comfortable in my dress and not have people step on the back or me hit them with my skirt.
Would you hire a wedding planner, event coordinator? So I've been dabling in this industry for awhile... planning weddings and parties. I LOVE it. Every couple or family I've worked with is astonished at how badly the industry takes advantage of the consumer, and how less stressful the event can be if you have help. I really want to take this up a notch... be an event coordinator. The issue that will always remain though is... would you pay for it? How much would you pay for it? Would you just pay for somebody to help you on the day of your event? Or would you pay somebody to guide you along the way... helping to make on budget decisions, and guiding you through all the fine print? Any opinions welcome, thanks!
What should I get my wedding planner as a gift? He has done an INCREDIBLE job. The top in his industry - and he has charged my fiance and I nothing (because of a family tie). My budget is $1000AUD. That's how thankful I am. Any ideas!? My budget is max $1000AUD. A small gift of little value will not do. Thanks.
Wedding planner for My friend has a budget of $2000 for her wedding. It it feasible for her to hire a wedding planner? If so, how much would one cost, and where would I find them? (the wedding is in Seattle, btw)
wedding on a shoe-string budget, can you help? Hi, we are wanting to get married but we dont have a very big budget at all and this is where I become stuck. I have spoken with my Vicar as well as the towns registrar and we have decided on our local church as it is a little cheaper, it is beautiful and can hold all of our guests. Also, the Vicar has said he will help us with costs, which is so good of him to do. I dont have a clue what to do from here though, I was wanting a wedding planner but they are just too expensive, so i was wondering if anyone could offer me any tips or if anyone knows of a free website that basically does what a planner would do and tells you step by step what needs to be done next etc, sort of like an organiser. Did any of you get married on a tight budget? How did it go? If you had to re-do it again this time with lots of money, would you change it or would you do it cheaply again?
What are some great ways to decorate for an elegant wedding without breaking the bank? We are using tulle, lots of candles, silk flowers, etc. But I really want it to stand out and look magnificent even on a very small budget. For all you crafters and wedding planners out there, what are some things I can use that are not that expensive, but still are beautiful and fancy? I am getting married inside of a very large and gorgeous church in may! The colors are chocolate, lavendar, and cream.
would you hire a wedding planner if? hi im training to be a wedding planner and im hoping once i pass to help people out who are on low budgets either in person or via emails with a very small charge invloved just enough for me to make a profit and cover costs would you hire a wedding planner if you were on a low budget im not talking of charging loads just i was in same boat worked full time so did my partner and we just didnt have time to sit and research everything im saying for people like that charging a small amount to do the time consuming stuff and then help out on the day for like 100 quid
Help! What do to... I'm getting married? Also need info on an affordable wedding planner? Im am 20 yrs old am I am engaged to my boyfriend of four years. We have been through alot and we're finally ready to jump the broom! I'm so excited but he is not helping me, and when he does its like I have to nag him, which I don't want to. This is suppose to be a happy time so he should want to plan right?, or should I just do it on my own? Second ? Although we have been together for a while my family is not too fond of him bc of his behavior, however most of his actions are only in reaction to mine...we plan to have an engagement party this upcoming February to let our families know...how should i go about annoucing this and gaining support from my family? Finally, I'm almost finishing school and he's about to start, we're limited on cash is there anyone who knows how to go about getting a sponsored wedding or planning an elegant but budget-friendly wedding? Sorry for all the ?'s but Im stressing out here! thanx for any input~all suggestions welcomed We have been together for a while and not just on weekends we actualy used to stay together for a while. So I do know him in and out. We have faced alot of obstacles and the reason for my mom not liking him is bc she only sees what he does and not what I do o provoke it. We have broken up so many times but we always manage to make it back to one another. Even through the growing pains of high school and us moving apart for me to attend college. I really love him. And yes I may be 20 but age really isnt always the determinate factor. I just want him to participate more; and also find out how to get my mom to see him in the light I do and how she used to. Because before all the bs she did in fact love him and thought very highly of him.
I want to have a small outdoor wedding in Virginia? My boyfriend and I have discussed a tentative time-line for us getting married in the Spring of 2010. I've dreamed of a garden wedding with ceremony and reception being on the same site. My hometown is Smithfield, VA so I would like it be close to there. Does anyone have any good suggestions as far as a location within a reasonable budget. Also is there good advice on picking a wedding planner? How do I choose the best for me? Thanks!
Is it difficult to coordinate a wedding in hawaii without hiring a wedding plannner? My finance and I are planning on our wedding in Oahu next fall and contacting a wedding planner now. But almost 40% of the estimate are service related fees (i.e. delivery, catering staff, tips, cleaning, on-site coordination fees, 20% services charge, etc). Our budget is $15,000 and we our inviting 30 guests. We just want to have a simple casual wedding at a beach house. Should we go ahead with the planner or should we consider planning ourselves?
Clearing Up The Myths On Wedding Planners? I am a certified wedding planner of 5 years. Normally for full wedding planning we charge 10% of the budget. I have such great relationships with suppliers that I always save the couples so much money through the huge discounts that I get that I more than pay for my fees. So the couples are spending the same money that they would have been in the first place. It is the couples with the smallest budgets who should hire a wedding planner because we can strethch their small budgets so much further. I realize that not all wedding planner are not the same - but some of the people on here really don't seem to understand the business.
cost to hire a wedding planner...? I live in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia and will be getting married next June. I know I can do 99% of the details on my own (ok...maybe 80%) but I work full time and have an 8 year old- that doesn't leave much time for wedding planning. Like most, my fiance and I have to (and want to!) stay within a budget. If someone could give me some insight on cost- to do it all, or to do part (do coordinators even do it that way?)...as well as what does the service come with? Will they be there on the big day to insure all of the details are done? (I know the obvious answer is to call a local coordinator- its the whole time factor...I'd like some information up front before I go ahead and schedule a consultation) thank you!
Question for Event Planners and Wedding Coordinators only? How do you charge? I am getting into the business, but I am confused about pricing. I read that coordinators get paid by charging a certain percentage of the wedding budget. My question is, what if there is no budget? Also, what if someone tells you their wedding budget is $5,000, but they spend $10,000? How would you know? I just planned a wedding for a couple, and at the beginning of the planning process, they told me they didn't have a budget. They said "if we like it, we'll buy it". I was involved with most of the planning, but not ALL aspects, therefore I couldn't tell you the TOTAL cost of their wedding. In situations like that, how do you charge? People are not going to always be honest about their budget when they know the higher their budget is, the more they have to pay you, and if they do lie about their budget, there's no way for me to find out. Help Please. I'm ready to start taking on more clients, but I have to get this ironed out first.
How do I choose a wedding planner? My fiance and I have decided to have our wedding in Arizona. We currently live in Washington, DC. I am going crazy trying to figure out how to plan our wedding when I have never been to Arizona nor will I be able to make frequent trips to meet with vendors and view venues. As such I am thinking I should hire a wedding planner but the same issue still arises. How do I choose a wedding planner that is familiar with that area and it's vendors from across the country? Everything I've read states we should meet at least a few planners and make certain they fit our budget and style. But that's not an easy thing to do over the phone or via email. Any suggestions? Just to note since this could come across wrongly. Neither of us want a big, fancy wedding just something simple that is perfect for our personalities and tastes. We have discussed elopement to simplify it all but we want to have those special moments from an actual ceremony to remember. The city: Tucson Reasons: - He has elderly family in the area that won't be able to come to our wedding if we have somewhere that requires them to travel. - We decided on an evening wedding and Arizona has some of the most beautiful sunsets.
wedding planner or not??? i am in love with this one wedding planner, but she works in New Jersey and i live in Wisconsin. Plus, she doesnt work into our budget but i dont think i can do it with out her. any opinions?????
SHoudl I get a wedding planner? I am in school full-time, well actually more than full-time, because it's an accelerated program, and dedicate about 60 hours a week to just school. However, because I am not working, our budget is tight. I'm figuring about 10k max is what we can afford. I feel totally stressed and bogged down with the planning, getting a hold of vendors and figuring out who to use and who has better prices. Would it be worth it with my budget to get a planner? Will they be able to help me find vendors in my budget? Will what they save me cancel out the cost of the fee? My biggest concern right now is getting what I want and affording it, is that what a planner does, help me work in my budget? I forgot to add that I live in the SF bay area and plan on getting it done in the Napa area.
Do I need a wedding planner? I am getting married on April 18th, 2009. It is going to be a small wedding, anywhere from 80 to 100 people. I am not sure if I should hire a wedding planner or not...none of my family lives in the town the wedding is in, and only one of my bridesmaids does. I am also going to school part time and working full time and my fiance is deployed until only a few months before....I am drawn (my family says they will help with it all, and I have a small budget, but I am also a total control freak!) So any help from anyone would be great, I have no clue what I should do!!! Thanks again ;-)
Hi all, do they ever hired a guy as their wedding planner? I'm 26YO guy who will starting a wedding/event planner course in NYC. i did some of weddings (of my friends) in my community church. i did (almost) everything. from budgeting, decorating, invitation, time planning on the big day, making a hand bouquet for the bride, center pieces, become the Master of Ceremony, and i even sing in their wedding, and of course clean it up when it's done. the Bad thing is, i never photograph all of my creation. :( so i dont have a portfolio. my only question is, do you think they will hire a guy as their wedding planner? i really want to become as awedding planner, open my own business so bad. any suggestion? advice? and can someone give me an idea, how much (approx.) the beginner wedding planner can make?
Brides--If a certified wedding consultant held a class in your area what topics would you like to see covered? I am a wedding planner looking to help more brides in my area other than those who can afford my services. I see a lot of brides on smaller budgets but they could use help with different aspects of their wedding. If you are a bride (or groom) to be, would you find taking a wedding planning class helpful? What topics would be most helpful to you? (i.e. budget, decorating on a budget, etiquette, etc.) Thanks! Lydia--As a professional in the bridal industry I have to disagree. You cannot possible tell me that you are not overlooking something or not saving money somewhere that you might be able to with a wedding planner. I guarantee that I can plan you under the table when it comes to weddings. Wedding consultants plan more weddings than you ever will in your lifetime. Not trying to be mean just factual. I am trying to create a wedding class that bride's (such as yourself) can benefit from...thanks but I'm not looking for sarcasm. I am excellent at what I do and try to help my clients as well as other brides who cannot afford to hire a wedding consultant but who sincerely need help.
Best Wedding Planner Book? Also, what are some important details that can be overlooked? What are some fun and creative alternatives to dancing? What are some fun and creative drinks that are non-alcoholic? How can I scrimp and save without making my wedding look cheap? (without deleting people from guest list - I HAVE A BIG BIG FAMILY!) P.S.I'm Brazilian and I want to incorporate some of that into the food, but I don't want to serve regular Brazilian food. If you have any thoughts or experience with Brazlian weddings, your input would be GREAT! My budget is $10,000. I'll probably have 150-250 (or less) guests.
I feel so overwhelmed with my wedding planning? I have only been engaged for a couple of days and I am already totally overwhelmed. No one is putting any pressure on my I am totally doing it myself. My problem is that I have no idea how to plan a wedding and I have a very small budget. I want to it to be beautiful and unique, but I don't know how to make this happen. There is no way that I could afford a wedding planner.
How do I tell my future mother in law I already have a wedding planner? We are planning on having a January wedding and are on a bit of a budget because we chose a high-end reception site. My future mother-in-law keeps bringing up that she wants to have a party that summer AFTER the wedding because "a lot of people will want to give us gifts." She even went as far as to say, "I don't have to wear a white dress." ...what is she really trying to say? I told my fiance, they can invite whoever they want to the wedding, I just can't pay for their extra guests. To be blunt, they can pick up the tab if they want to invite more people. When I told her it's up to my him (my fiance), he sat there and said nothing. She said, "no it's not." I am so close to saying something I might regret. Also, she keeps pushing and hinting to have her daughter as one of MY Bridesmaids. I just don't say anything but what is a nice way to tell them "hell no." One more thing, my parents are from another country but I was born and raised in AMERICA. Is there a nice way to tell her to please stop introducing me as her son's "Chinese fiancee" and just introduce me as her son's "fiancee?" I already told him to quit with that racial factor but because I don't come from a traditional Chinese family. I am not even encoporating the culture in our wedding (aren't they lucky). I feel like Charlotte (Sex and the City) when she had to deal with Trey's pushy mother - Bunny. Your feedback, please!
Suggestions for a wedding planning organizer or book? Hello, I just became engaged over the weekend, and it's quite exciting! We have yet to set a date etc...I will start thinking about details in the next 3 months or so...yet, I would love to get a hold of any books, mostly a wedding organizer, or a scrapbook of some sort to insert any ideas...since, I will not be using a wedding planner (I'm on a budget) I would love to hear any of your suggestions...I really don't know how to begin! Thank you!
wedding planner ad....? Im going to place an ad in my local paper for wedding coordinator services. My goal is gain experience in the industry so I will charge very little and help with everything. Does this sound ok to place as ad: Need help planning your special day? I can help! I’m looking to eventually open my own business as a wedding coordinator, but I have to start somewhere. I am offering my services for any bride that needs help with their big day. Whether you need me to plan every detail or just need an extra hand to bring your fantasy wedding to life, I can help. My goal is assist future brides and gain experience doing it to eventually become a successful even coordinator. I can work with your budget and do all the things you cant, don’t want to do, or don’t have to time to do! My services are very reasonable, just looking to gain experience in this industry. Please only post contructive criticism Thanks
