catholic wedding music? hello~ I am getting married an a catholic church and was just wondering if anyone knew what type of music is allowed to be played. I would really love to be able to walk down the isle to the 'canon in D' played by pachelbel, but i don't know if that is allowed to be played in the church..? http://www.wellington-music.com/current2/catholic_repertoire.htm
Can secular music be played at a Catholic wedding ceremony? Also, can readings not from the Bible be read as well? Such as poetry or Shakespeare? We are not having a full traditional mass, as my fiance is Catholic and I am not.
Can you only have religious music in a Catholic Church wedding? We're getting married in a Catholic Church and are hiring a guitartist to play but I just heard somewhere that he can only play religious music. Does anyone know if this is true because I was hoping to choose a song that I know and have him perform it as I walk down... :|
Can you have any music as your entrance music for a wedding in a Catholic church in Ireland? I am wondering if there are restrictions on what music you play. I am getting married in Lady Chapel in Maynooth in Co.Kildare. Any advice would be great No it's nothing horrible, it's a sweet lil song, it has lovely words, but it's not religious music, like Ave Maria, which alota weddings play.
How many songs and what music is played for a catholic church wedding ceremony? Are there any good sites that could help us in choosing the music and maybe listen?
What are some examples of songs to play during a Catholic wedding ceremony? I am planning a Catholic wedding and am having a hard time finding any good songs to use that will be allowed by the church. Can anyone tell me what they may have used in their wedding or where I can find some good examples of accepted music for the Catholic sacrament of marriage? I am not having mass and thus simply need a song to seat the mothers, for the bridesmaids, bride and recession.
Would "Ave Maria" played instrumentally be offensive as pre-service music at a non-Catholic wedding? It's just a beautiful tune, and one-half of the wedding party is Catholic. How I suffer as an organist.
Wedding Music Rules for a catholic service? 1. Processional Music. Most Processional music isnt really Sacred.(Canon in D, Trumpet voluntary), so are you allowed to do certain classical pieces(Pomp and circumstance,) or some background music.("Harrys wonderful world" from Harry Potter, "Happy Ending," from the Little Mermaid). 2. Hymns during service. What kind of Hymns can they use? Any that they please? Strictly wedding? Hymns common to that parish? do the bride and groom get any say? 3. Mass settings Mass settings meaning the musical setting to the Gloria, Sanctus, Memorial acclimation, Amen, Lamb of God. Is the couple allowed to choose whatever setting they please? 4. Style of Music? Do they have an option if they want Chant, Motet Choral, classical, baroque, gospel, Contemporary. ect.?
Catholic wedding? I'm Catholic and I'm getting married next month and I have a question reg. music. If anyone has been married in the Church, do you remember how many songs were needed and for what purposes? I know, bridal party processional, bride processional, the ave maria for flower offering, music during communion and the recessional...anything else? Thanks!
Catholic wedding liturgy & essential elements could you please provide some details? We need some details on the included aspects of a Catholic wedding, including the liturgy, the blessing of the couple, the music, the program and so forth, the more details you can provide the better. If you have website you can recommend that's great, no detail to trivial or small, hope you can help! Thanks to all who respond!
What music for a wedding procession for a catholic church can be used? like the entrance of the bridesmades and brides, and the exit. I have heard Trumpet voluntary, Jesu Joy of Mans Desiring, Canon in D, and Here comes the bride. But those tunes besides Jesu Joy of Mans desiring arent really sacred. So can you use other classic pieces not common with weddings. ex.(pomp and circumstance, Four seasons from vivaldi, the planets from Gustav Holtz) or some piece of music you or a friend wrote, or orchestral background music from a wedding (Ex. Harrys Wonderful World, from Harry Potter, Happy Ending from the Little Mermaid)
wedding music? What are some modern songs that you have heard at a Catholic wedding or had in a wedding of your own during the church ceremony?
Help! When do the music come in in Catholic weddings? My friend has asked me to help her out by playing the organ at her wedding. She too is unfamiliar with when there should be music/hymns during the Catholic wedding ceremony. This is the tentative program below. If you have some idea, could you suggest when and what songs/hymns usually come in admist the program? Thank you very much! Entrance Rite Entrance Song Greeting Opening Prayer Liturgy of the Word First Reading Responsorial Psalm Second Reading Gospel Acclamation GOSPEL Homily Liturgy of the Sacrament Giving of Consent Blessing and Exchange of Rings General Intercessions Nuptial Blessing Conclusion Lord’s Prayer Solemn Blessing Signing the Register
What is your favorite wedding music? My brother's friend and his fiance are planning their wedding. We were discussing music, hyms, songs Bridal marches etc. My choice was "Oh perfect love all human thoughts trancending' Nothing was decided. What would your choice be? Catholic or protestant. High church or homely or even secular registry or civil celebrant any music. The groom to be suggested " The day Thou Gavest Lord is e...d" and wasgiven a swift smack. With love, RoseP.
Wedding Music expertise please....? My cousin has asked me to sing through the Catholic Mass at his wedding ceremony, and has basically left the music choice up to me which I am freaking out about!!! Our family is French and Italian so tradition is important, but he also says he wants something "up to date" too???? This is driving me nuts!!!! I have till June to figure this out, so please any and all opinions are being accepted. I can sing just about anything, I have a wide range, but specialty is Soprano. Who would have figured an Italian soprano lol...anyways so please help me Im ready to tell him to forget it thats how anxious I am about this. And I really dont want to have to do that Id love to do this for him. That one is great yes, but it also the one I sang at Grandmothers funeral...no its a no no...but I agree totally thanks for your help. I wish I hadnt sang that one for that reason especially.
Question about Wedding Music? A lot of people on here ask about songs for walking down the aisle to. I always thought people walked down the aisle to the tradtional, "Here comes the bride" or variations of that. But, i'm starting to believe that people are walking down the aisle to more mainstream, popular songs. Is this right? Or am I confused about what these people are asking? I'm Catholic, we are only allowed to walk down the aisle to the traditional wedding music.
help...wedding music?? i have been asked to play the piano for a friends wedding, im a music student and have performed alot but never done a wedding before, i need help with music for the ceremony!! it is going to be a catholic ceremony in a church, im not very religious and either is my friend (its her finacee's idea for the church) so neither of have a clue as to what music to have! any ideas for the music and where to get it cheaply or free????
should a couple be allowed to use whatever music they want for their wedding? in the catholic church, i heard that the pastor may choose to put limitations on the music that can be used as long as the mass music are religious, but still choose whatever hymns they so desire, since hymns may mean different things to different couples. as for the processional music, shouldnt they be able to use tunes from movies, or others, classic not real populare for weddings or tunes not used at the typical wedding tunes. thank you the clowns who gave their cauky answers, what i was referring to was the music played before the service, the bridesmades/groomsmen processional, entrance of the bride. and recessional, or the pre ceremony music. however the mass part, they should use hymns. personally, i dont think the stereotypical wedding tunes like canon, or trumpet voluntary, or wedding march are any more sacred than using the "happy ending" theme from the little mermaid, or "Harrys wonderful world" from Harry potter movies
Christian Wedding Music? Anyone know of some great Christian songs I could use for my ceremony?? Like for the unity candle & exiting the church?? Or do you know of any websites that i can listen to samples of songs?? We are getting married in Catholic church and the priest would rather us use church appropriate songs for the ceremony.... we are planning on having a reception dance so we can use whatever type of music for that :) Thanks I tried google last night and came up with a bunch of stuff i could buy, but I'm just looking for some samples i could listen to before spending money on a cd :)
Do I have to have a catholic wedding or can it be Non denominational? I am getting married soon and both me and my fiancee are catholic. We do believe in god and practice our religion but we still are not "perfect". Meaning we dont attend mass every single week or follow every guideline of our religion. There are a few customs that we dont completely agree with. Every church that we would have liked to have our wedding at has pretty much the same rules: No strapless attire, no aisle runners, no popular music, no rose petals, no confetti, no unity candles......these are just a few, I could go on forever. So my question basically is, Can we get married at a non denominational church? I have not looked into some of the rules for these types of churches yet but, are they the same at all?
What's the order of service for very traditional Catholic Wedding with Mass? I'm choosing very traditional classical music (mostly sung in Latin; appropriate Italian operatic excerpts also a possibility) for a close friend's Catholic wedding and although I'm familiar with the normal Mass, I'd like to ensure that I get the order to service absolutely right. A Tridentine Mass O.O.S. would also be good if you know it ... basically I want to ensure that I don't miss anything out and most lists I've found online don't even tell you where the Eucharist is supposed to go! Many, many thanks in advance :) Thanks Sabrina, but the priest has actually asked which order my friend would like. There are a bunch of various nationalities involved on both sides of the family, plus pre and post- 'vatican 1966 observations' to consider in the texts; hence my question! also, I'm not asking for musical suggestions because that's my job ... just everyone's experience of the options for O.O.S. so that the music I finally decide on will fit very appropriately, rather than loosely appropriately :) Once again, thanks for taking the time to write
Muslim guests at a catholic wedding? My mum, sisters, brother in laws and their kids are Muslim and I am Christian, I shall be getting married soon and need to know something as I have searched crazy on Google and not much info has come up. I need to know is it OK for my nieces and nephew to participate in the wedding as my Paige boy and my 2 flower girls? As well as is it OK for my Muslim family members to be in the wedding ceremony in the church and at the reception are they aloud to dance and what music is not aloud and what are they aloud to do and not to do. As I do want this day to as eventful and joyful for me as for them.
Traditional Irish music suggestions for wedding procession and first dance. ? I suppose you could say the theme for our wedding is Traditional Newfoundland. We both live on the island and that's where our families have lived since the 1700's. We're hiring a traditional Irish Newfoundland band which plays folk music from Ireland, England and Newfoundland. We're trying to find the perfect song to use in the church. We're both Anglican ( but both of our mothers used to be Catholic) if that makes any difference what so ever. We're thinking about getting a choir in or making a choir our of some of my old chamber choir buddies ( I have at least 5 people who offered to sing at the wedding) Before the wedding we want Ode to Newfoundland and Farewell to Nova Scotia ( I lived there most of my childhood) Maybe Ave Maria but we're not sure yet. I love it him, not so much. but for the actual service I'm stuck. I think Dobbins Flowery Vale ( Rajaton does an awesome job of it) is a pretty song but might be too much for a wedding. As for the first dance we have nothing.we want to find something that is perfect for a couple and isn't a jig or reel. Any suggestions? English songs preferably no one is Gaelic on either side of the family.
Wedding ceremony music - suggestions? I am getting married in a Catholic church and will be having the traditional classics--Ode to Joy, Trumpet Voluntary, Ave Maria.... Since it is not a Mass, we are having a Unity Candle ceremony. My fiance's brother has a wonderful voice and we would like him to sing while we light the candles. He will have piano, cello, and violin to do the music. I think it will be ok if it is secular, but still has to be approved by the Music Director. I would like to find something he would actually enjoy singing...so far, all I have is "Grow Old Along with Me", which is a lot better than the Music Director's choice of "Amazing Grace"! Would appreciate other ideas.
Need help about wedding! What's the nice idea for a place or catholic church to marry in Manila, Philippines. I'm getting married this July or August and we'll do a catholic church and a civil wedding all at the same time but up to now I still don't have a church to held our wedding. My fiance and I would like it to be a Filipino wedding even he's French. I would very much appreciate all suggestions on everything concerning wedding stuffs like... nice reception place, catering company, flowers, cakes, photographers, music, bridal dress makers and barongs, invitations... everything that could be a big help. But most of all, I would really love to find a nice church to held our Filipino theme wedding.... Thanks!
How much music do I need for my ceremony? I have only ever been to Catholic wedding ceremonies, but I am having a short (30 minutes hopefully) ceremony. How many songs do I need? My fiancé is writing my processional, and I know I need a song for when we leave the church. What else do I need for during the ceremony? Thanks!
Need help with music? Well I'm down to some little stuff in the planning process, Yay! I talked to our DJ, whom is a good friend of ours, and he said that I should get a list of what music and when to play it, well the problem is I don't know for which parts of the ceremony to have music for. So I need to know the order of music, I guess, which parts of the ceremony and any ideas for the music that generally plays during those parts? I already know about the reception music, such as the first dance and garter toss but what else? Cake cutting music? Bouquet toss? and ANYTHING else would be greatly appreciated! I've only been to one big wedding and it was a catholic wedding so it was verrrry long, but I was like 10 years old. Please help!! Thanks to all answers in advance with much appreciation!! : ) Sorry guess I should've mentioned that it's a non-denominational wedding, NOT in a church, pretty formal though i.e wedding gown, tuxes, etc... and it'll take place at 4:15pm and the reception to follow at 5:30 to 6pm ish. If you need any other details please let me know and I'll try to keep up Thanks : )
Church Music... why are denominations nearly are stereotypical in music style - Hymns, to modern, to tradtiona As a Catholic, I personally like traditional Catholic music. I sometimes feel sad when music is turned into a modern style, just to attract more people. After being at a recent wedding, the Methodist church we were at had old traditional hymns, but are different from the musical books many Traditional Catholics use. Likewise, many of the newer non-denom churches use new music. It's hard to say what is right or wrong, I'm not asking that question... but the root of music for Church, can anyone help me with that? Or ...Thanks!
What is your dream wedding like? My dream wedding is like a beach wedding in Hawaii. Walking in the sand barefooted, lots of flowers, sunset is romantic... and with a mellow music picked by us. Only important persons close to our hearts would be invited. I am a Catholic and wedding outside the church is not allowed. So my first would be in church then my dream wedding follows.
Any ideas for a mixed race wedding? I am a Shanghai born Asian musician and going to married a white Catholic guy in Dec. I have googled some western style weddings, but I really like to add some oriental detail to our wedding. Please share any ideas of a mixed culture wedding, such as the ceremony, reception, decoration, food, music, cake, wedding gown, bridesmaids' dresses...
I need help finding contemporary christian songs for my wedding ceremony.? I found out that I have to play christian based music during my wedding ceremony. I wasn't brought up in a religious family and am marrying a catholic in his church. Any ideas on some contemporary christian music that I can use? I also have a singer.
What are questions to ask your priest for a wedding? I am meeting my priest next week and I am not sure what to ask him, I dont want to forget anything. We are getting married in a catholic church in 6 months. I know the basics like flowers, music, eulogy, rehersal. Can anyone help me?
What happends at a tradicional Colombian Wedding Ceremony? It's 4 months to our wedding and every body keeps asking me what's the culture behind a Colombian Wedding? What happens at church, I know the general things about a Catholic wedding, but what makes it Colombian? What happens at the reception? my fiances family are Polish and they do a hat with things on it and have some romantic music just for weddings... but when I am asked about my culture I have no idea! sad I know, on my defence, I have never ever been part of a wedding there or here... and I moved here to young too. I did go to Colombia to by unique hand made things as favors and decoration, but still wondering on how else I can incoraporate my culture to the wedding.
How do I express to guests that it is a formal wedding? I am having a formal wedding, the ceremony is starting at 4pm (this is the latest time I could arrage it for because the church does not allow weddings after that time). I have my heart set on this church and do not want to change locations. Traditionally, no one wears a tuxedo before 5 pm, but after the ceremony (which is a catholic one so it will be a lil bit more lengthy) we are having a cocktail hour and a reception which will last until about 11pm. Is putting "Black Tie Affair" enough to get the point across that it is very formal? I am using very formal invitations, do I need the save the dates to be just as formal? It's not white-tie kind of formal, but all of my 6 bridesmaids are wearing floor length black gowns and we are having a 10 piece band for music at the reception. Any suggestions to make sure no one shows up in a polo shirt, or is 4pm just too ridiclious to request this sort of thing? Just for clarification, this is a Manhattan wedding, and most people who are attending the wedding own tuxedos of their own. My issue is not getting people to rent them, butt to know to wear them at a 4pm wedding since normally you'd wear them after 5pm. It will also be a wedding of 200+ as the guest list stands now. (Just to give an idea of where I am coming from)
i'm mexican and my fiancee is white, how do i make the wedding compromise between both traditions? i'm a mexican catholic (duh, right?) and my boyfriend is white but also catholic. my family speaks only spanish and his family speaks only english, any suggestions for the wedding ceremony, vows, music, anything?
How much would you pay musician? In a Catholic wedding, how much do you pay the person playing the music? And the person singing (different people)?
Guitarist for a wedding ceremony? Hello. Im having a very small wedding ceremony (8 ppl present) in a catholic church. I talked to the music director today and she gave me the option of a organist AND a singer or she knew a guy who played guitar and sang. Im thinking the guitarist/singer would be a much better option to cut down costs, but just wondering how a guitar would sound during a wedding ceremony as opposed to the traditional organ. Has anyone witnessed a guitar at a wedding? Does it sound just as nice/appropriate as an organ? THANKS
What do you think if it in a wedding you put Beethoven Romance in F at the church while all the guests are? waiting for the bridal party to enter the church? I just heard that song and thought it would be beautiful, and could suggest for friends who get married or even me when I do it sometime. In Roman Catholic Churches I do not know if it is allowed to put other type of non clerical music on inside the church.? do you know any on it?
what kind of music unity candle? i am getting married in July and instead of having an organist or someone singing. we are able to make a CD with our music on. the only problem is that all the music during the ceremony has to be religious and i really don't know any. my wedding is in a catholic church the only song during the ceremony is gonna be for the unity candle i was wondering if anyone knew any good songs for this thanks
What kind of planning would go into this simple wedding? Here are the solid choices we have made (or mostly solid!): June 2010 (no specific date yet) in Anchorage, Alaska. Wedding at our Catholic church - predecorated Best man and Matron of Honor - nothing fancy, just suit and green (any shade) tie for him, modest green (of any shade) dress or blouse and skirt for her. Guests - about 20 people, including us, all family except our priest Reception - either appetizer reception or BBQ in his parents backyard (or indoors if it is rainy). Any music for reception we'll use an iPod. We're trying to keep it cheap and friendly. I already have the dress picked out, and all decor and attire is just different shades of green. What kind and how much planning needs to go into this? Did I miss anything important? Quick responses to some suggestions: flowers: you're right, thanks. gifts in general: I probably would have done that anyway, it is my personality, lol wedding cake: duh, i forgot. my fiance is a cook, and he wants to make it :) invites: printing at home tent: it's Alaska, never gets very hot here Caterer: we really don't have the money for a caterer, we'll get by with folding chairs, tables and paper plates ;) transport: we all have our own cars shoes: goes along with dress :) drinks: goes along with BBQ food speeches: up to those making them Mic: no need, thanks speakers: check makeup/hair: myself and my mom - simple french braid. vows: Catholic - premade :) rides: no one in the guest list drinks much and there are always cabs.
Name that Hymn? I heard a beautiful hymn at a Catholic wedding, but forgot to take home the music sheet. The music is by Holst. In England it's called "I vow to thee my country." I heard a version that starts "Our (model?) is St Nicholas..." May God bless you all.
Wedding songs? My fiance and I are getting married this October and this coming Sunday we have to go to our music meeting at the church we are getting married at. I used to go to church when I was younger, but haven't been in quite awhile...my fiance is Catholic and we are getting married at his church. Anyways, we want to pick a nice song to play during our unity candle lighting...I don't listen to any type of religious music but I talked to the music coordinator and she said we can certainly pick a song, but they would like it to be appropriate of course, and to show our love to God...? I'm thinking if I can find a song that's just appropriate enough to play in a church this should be fine, she just said that she would have to approve the song after the meeting...do any of you know of any good songs to play at a wedding? I do know there are some good Christian songs out there, just can't think of any...ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Help please from someone who has studied music or knowledgeable in his regard? We have been completely let down with the printers for my daughter's wedding and no one can do an Order of Service within days. I am left to do this and don't want to make a mess of it. It is a Catholic serivice with a hymn during Communion. and a solo afterwards. Is it in order to call this solo the Communion Anthem? When typing out the chorus of hymns I am doing this in a different font to stand out and have put Refrain for the congregation to sing. Is this correct? At the signing of the register it is the tune and 1st verse of a known hymn but a friend has modified the next 2 verse to beaufiful words for a wedding. I therefore feel I can't put the actual composers name beside it. Do you think it okay to put (Special version for wedding)? PLEASE could be people only answer who really know about this. It may sound trivial but when it's your daughter's wedding you feel it so important. With genuine thanks to anyone who answers.
Ceremony Music? I need songs for a catholic church ceremony? What is a good walking down the isle song in my case? And any suggestions for Groom/ Mother Dance and The Wedding Party Dance? the catholic ceremony is the music i am most concerned about. and i want to get a head start on this b4 we sit down and talk about it with our priest. do they allow classical music for a catholic ceremony?
On Eagles Wings...Catholic hymn? Ok, I have to sing On Eagles Wings in my friend's wedding in June. I can't find any clips of a woman singing it, except in a choir setting. Does anyone know of anybody that sings this? Also, I don't play any instruments so I can't exactly play around with the sheet music to try to lower it. Help please!
Where to take British guests sightseeing in and within 15 miles of Princeton, NJ? Aside from the University, what sights do you think would be interesting to two teens and their parents? Educated folks, interested in music, Catholic, mom has lived in the US for a year 30 years ago, others have visited the Midwest/CA only. What else besides the Battlefield, Morven, etc.? Anything esp. American/New Jersey-ish? I'm concerned that the Shore is going to have way too much traffic, and I need to be in the area by 3. Thanks!! Thanks!! They're arriving by train Weds. morning. I live in Princeton, so I'm aware of the various battlefields and colonial sights. But I thought there might be some sights I'm overlooking that would be of interest to foreign visitors.
Im a pastors daughter and im getting married but people want me to have a dance what should i do? i grew up in a baptist christian home and i was tought that dancing was always a thing of the world! my fieances parents are catholic and they are putting pressure to have a dance :( i think it would be fun but i wouldnt be comforable being that other pastors and friends i grew up with in church would look down on that ! i always want to stand up for the lord and my testomony but i dont know if thats really letting him down if there is no bad words or nasty music going on ...only love songs related to the wedding theme....when me and my love are alone we dance for fun and romance......what you think would it still be the wrong thing to do??
Is it strange for a church to charge over $1000 for ceremony? My fiance and I are Catholic and it is very important for us to get married in the Church. We live in WI but are getting married in CA because it's where my family is (I grew up in So. Cal.). The church that we want to get married at costs about $1200. This does include a wedding planner, and music. Any thoughts? It does include a wedding planner, I talked to the church today. It is the church that my family goes to. This is the rate for non-parishoners. They are giving us parishoner status as far as being able to get the date and time we want (because my cousin and his family are extremely involved in this church) but we have to pay non-parishoner fees.
Why are American parties so lame (weddings, reunions, birthdays, batisms, etc.)? OK, the American ones I went to everyone was like BYOB and everyone was all worried about keeping up appearances. Then I experienced a hispanic Catholic baptism and an Indian wedding. They went no holds barred on the food and music. Best food, caterers, DJ, drinks. Even the old people were cutting loose. Why are we so stuck up at social functions. OK, the American ones I went to are upper-middle class WASP Virginia. They just seem kinda lame for some reason.
Ceremony and Reception on the Cheap? Here's our basic plan: Can we do this for under $1000? or maybe $1500? if we use a lot of walmart stuff? if not, how much do you think it would be? Wedding will take place at our Catholic church. Groom and best man: suits or tuxes with white shirts an emerald green ties Bride: white dress (WalMart/second hand store is fine) MOH: emerald green dress (see above) Guest list: wedding invitations/ thank you cards: Total = 20-ish guests Invitations and thank you cards: Wal-Mart or home made Music: burned CD with songs for each interlude during wedding and for reception, to be played continuously at reception (no need for DJ at reception) Flowers: single, long stem white rose with emerald green ribbons on each pew and in hand of MOH, on collar of Best Man, and on Grooms collar. 3 white roses with small amount of babies breath and fern for bridal bouquet. Pictures/ video: disposable cameras on tables during reception. (To Be Continued...) Video camera on tripod so it catches aisle action and can be swiveled to capture ceremony and back to capture recession. Reception: same building as wedding, different room. Finger snacks and non alcoholic drinks available (plus champagne for the toasts) Centerpieces: roses from wedding moved to vases on tables Cake: round white cake with white frosting with white rose and green leaf decorations (cheapest we can find - grocery store decoration is fine) Thanks!
Fiance driving me mad!! ? We're due to get married in about 7 months and everything has been going ok with the preparations (except that we've had a few money worries, but nothing we're not trying to overcome). Anyway, we had been planning on having a humanist ceremony as we want to get married outside (we live in Ireland and it is not legal to have a civil ceremony outdoors). Neither of us are religious so that's why we're not getting married in a church. I was surfing the net the other day, though and I came across this bishop who does outdoor weddings (perfectly legal, long story) and is very liberal and against most of the traditional Catholic teachings. He's available to do our wedding and it'd mean having the ceremony and legal part on the same day... So, I told hubbie-to-be about this and he didn't seem too enthusiastic. He then said that he'd like to ask his mum about this bishop (his mum is religious) as he wouldn't want her to be insulted by a bishop who's not very traditional. Fair enough you might think, but fiance has never, ever asked for his mother's approval before and there's no way I'm saying no to this sort of ceremony just because she mightn't like him. I'm furious with fiance and think he is saying this as an excuse as he doesn't want the bishop to perform ceremony (by the way ceremony wouldn't be religious - it'd be 20 mins with vows, music and poems - really personal and intimate). What would you do? Would you give in to fiance's wishes and seek approval from his mother or would you be angry like me and want to do your own thing? Thanks. Surfer Jeff... I'd still have the same problem and have to have the wedding over 2 days as it wouldn't be legal. We have to have priest or registrar do it to make it legal in Ireland.
What are some fun things for Non-Christians to do in church...? Willys cynical thought for the day; There can not be freedom of religion without freedom from religion! Pull aside an unruly child in a preschool Sunday school class and say: "If you're bad in here, you'll go to Hell." Put stray dogs in coat closets. Un-tune the piano. Replace the pianist's sheet music with "Stairway to Heaven." Going through all the hymnals, mark song 666. Find an empty seat, and ask the person next to it: "Is this seat SAVED?" Toss around a giant beach ball before service, like at Grateful Dead concerts. Ten minutes before it starts, find a kid in the front rows, hand him a dollar, and tell him to ask the preacher: "Would you rather be stoned or crucified?" Hide copies of Hustler inside the pulpit. Point them out. Start a wave. Do cool things with the lighting. When attendance is taken, sign on fake names like "Hugh G. Rection" and "Oliver Klozoff." Wear an ankh or a new-age crystal pendant. When the choir sings, roll your eyes and grumble: "Oh, Christ! Are they gonna do another SONG?" Make up your own words to the songs. Twenty minutes into the service, look at your watch, stand up, and say: "Oh sh*t. This isn't the wedding!" Run out quickly. Eat dry Cap'n Crunch through the entire service. If there is a crying baby, go over and tell the mother: "IF YOU DON'T SHUT THAT F***ING THING UP SO HELP ME GOD I'LL KILL IT!!!" Dress all in black, or in camo. Pierce the body of a tiny animal with stainless-steel wire. Wear it in your ear as jewelry. If you are male, wear two. Change sets for the evening service. If it is an Easter service, wear a pastel jacket, tie, and matching shorts. If you are male, wear a floral-print dress instead. At a church dinner, scoop up a forkful of mashed potatoes. Announce that you can see an image of Jesus. Place blocks of dry ice near the air ducts. Take off your shoes and socks. Hide near the baptismal pool with a block of sodium. At the first mention of "fire and brimstone," throw it in. Inflate balloons, then send them off. Mark places in the Bible or hymnal with religious-themed Far Side cartoons. Turn in the Bible to the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20: 3-17). Draw in asterisks and write exceptions at the bottom of the page. Make the sun reflect off your watch into the preacher's face. Make calls to 900 numbers on the phone in the kitchen. During the service, play with plastic dinosaurs. If someone asks what you're doing, tell them: "These are dinosaurs. They ruled the earth over 65 million years ago." Discreetly position a number of bottle rockets on the floor. Discreetly light them. Snicker every time the preacher talks about someone being stoned, especially Stephen. Dip communion wafers in communion wine. Eat it and exaggerate on how good it is. When they pass around the collection plate, drop in a piece of paper with Pat Robertson's MasterCard number. Turn to your neighbor, whisper: "This do in remembrance of me" and lick them. Fart, and have a friend shout: "Hark! An angel has spoken!" Blow bubbles. Fake a possession. Distribute condoms. Speak in tongues. Ask where the nearest ashtray is. Drool in the collection plate. Ask someone what they think about the Book of Peleponnesians. After they tell you, inform them that there is no Book of Peleponnesians. After a Catholic service, stand outside and tell Polish jokes. When someone points out that Pope John Paul II came from Poland, act embarrassed. Show unusual interest in any reference to the word "Ministry." At a church supper, bring a casserole with a ring or piece of a wristwatch embedded inside. Overnight, have the stained-glass windows replaced with new ones depicting comical, erotic, or death-related imagery. Send the bill to the pastor. Write on the bathroom wall: "The eyes of the LORD are upon you!!!" Spread the word that there'll be a rave party at the address of the church next Saturday at midnight. http://www.total-knowledge.com/~willyblues/ From; WILLYS JOKES 3/15/06 Fun things for Non-Christians to do in church... What exactly does a "wedding director" do? I'm having a Catholic wedding and both a priest (not the one doing the ceremony) and the music director have told me I should have a wedding director to keep things going smoothly. As far as I can tell from their descriptions, all this person really does is tell people when to walk. Has anyone had a wedding director for the Catholic nuptial Mass? What all does he/she do? Who can perform this job?
How can u tell if a guy is really in love with me or it's just lust or he is the wrong guy for me? We R both strong Catholics. I am 33, he is 37 & living with his parents. I am a virgin, won't have sex b 4 marriage. But he is in a hurry 2 marry me. Last month he said we may never get married because of a fight. I met him a year ago. He is a flip flopper. 1 day he in love with me the next day he isn't. But we are still together now. I didn't want to hold hands or kiss because I wasn't sure if he wanted me. He told me if I don't show affection he may not b with me. So I gave in. I kiss him alot, hold hands, alowed him to touch my butt, and stomach. But never slept with him. I want 2 have a church wedding. But he wanted 2 run off 2 vages and get married. He is serious about proposing 2 me next month. He wants 2 get registered 1st then have a church wedding. He asked me 2 propose 2 him in the past. Now he says he wants have sex b4 marriage because I make him hot. He asks me questions all the time, wants 2 change me, on how I dress, my makeup, music I listen, T.V. I watch, what I buy.

If anyone has been married in the Church, do you remember how many songs were needed and for what purposes? I know, bridal party processional, bride processional, the ave maria for flower offering, music during communion and the recessional...anything else? Thanks!

Many, many thanks in advance :)
