Wedding Gown Designers Knowledge Base
Who are some top wedding gown designers? I was wondering about where to go to for a wedding dress....I want something really original, very feminine and romantic, with a cathedral train and very detailed lace...something exquisite. Also I like a full, wide skirt....do yall know of any designers or great places to go for this type of style? Price isn't really a huge concern....I'll pay a high price if it's exactly what I'm looking for
Wedding gown designers and prices? Could anyone give me a list of the most famous wedding gown designers like Demetrios, Eve of Milady, Eden, Allure, Alfed Sung ect. along with an average price per gown or price range so I can get an idea about the cost?
Should I trust a website offering designer wedding gown knockoffs? I am desperate for a wedding dress! Except I only have three months, not a lot of money and a particular style I want. A website, TopBridalDress.com will be able to make the dress I want in just one month and at half the cost of the designer gown. I can't find any testimonials on this business. What should I do? Give up on my dream dress and just buy something boring off the rack? Or take the risk?
Not being advised of wedding gown designer? I assumed that when I put the deposit (A 60% deposit at that) on my wedding gown that they would advise me of the designer of the gown that I will be wearing. However, the shop owner refused to provide that information and stated that it was a Private label for a designer that only released certain limited dresses to retailers that have been their clients for many years. Has anyone else had this expierience? Obviously if I put $1000 deposit I am getting the dress and not having in made elsewhere... The reason I want to know now is because my sister lives out of town and I wanted her to be able to see the dress too. They did let me take pictures in the dress after my deposit. I figure if I am spending so much on a dress I should have bragging rights... hee hee! J/K Its gorgeous and I am getting married! Yippee!
How much does it cost to have a seamtress imitate a designer wedding gown? I live in the St. Louis area. How much do you think it would cost to have a seamtress create an imitation Claire Pettibone Alexandra wedding dress with an added train? I'm hoping that it can be done for under $500. The dress doesn't look that complicated. Her dresses normally sell for $2,000 - $10,000 though. You can see the gown at: http://www.clairepettibone.com/bridal/.
Looking for a Wedding gown designer in the SF Bay Area? I am getting married (yippee) and am looking for a wedding gown designer in the bay area (SF, oakland, San Jose, Hayward, etc). I have pictures of my dream dress and MUST wear this on my big day. However, I am having a hard time trying to locate someone reputable who does really good work. I don't have a lot of time left as my wedding date is in July, so any references or help are GREATLY appreciated. Thanks In Advance
Where can I RENT a designer wedding gown in Michigan or the Midwest? I am specifically looking for a place that rents designer gowns. I don't want to buy on eBay, go to trunk shows, sample sales, seamstresses, etc... I'm sure I want to rent. I'm really not that sentimental about objects and every woman I know has an old yellowing, too small wedding gown in her closet. I'm not going to be one of those! :) I have done searches but to no avail. I really just want to know if anyone knows of a place for sure that rents gowns.

So whats the difference between a designer wedding gown and a knock off wedding gown? For BTB's and recent brides: I love the designer gowns but I never thought I'd be able to tell the difference but now that I've seen both types, I can tell. Is it just me or are the designer gowns much better built, better quality and better style then their knock offs? Would you guys pay double to get a designer gown for your wedding? I am a student and I was justifying the fact that I want to get a designer gown although out of my budget, for the reason that getting married has always been a dream of mine and it will happen once and I want to be a princess when that day comes. Is that a good justification? what do you gals think? by the way, the gown that i plan on buying, (a designer one) won't cost more than $1,000-$1,500.
My wedding gown shrunk, how do I stretch it? I bought my wedding gown from a designer sample sale. Well it was dingy so I had it cleaned. My wedding is in 2 months and the dress is pretty tight and bunches in the middle. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to safely stretch the dress?

Who is the best wedding dress designer for a vintage-style gown? I don't mean an old fashioned no frills gown. The designer I like presently are St. Pucchi, Ines Di Santo, Pronovias, San Patrick and La Sposa. I like them because they make lacy, vintage looking gowns. St. Pucchi is the best. Do you know of a designer that makes similar styles that are less expensive?
Is there a place in Michigan where I can rent a designer wedding gown? I'd love to wear the perfect dress but I won't spend thousands on something I'll wear once! I know there are other ways to save money on a gown (trunk shows, sample sales, etc.) but I don't want to deal with the crowds and schedules. I just want to go at my convenience and rent a gown. So far I haven't had any luck finding a place around here. So does anyone know where in Michigan or even the Midwest I can RENT a gown?
Would you buy a designer wedding gown from and upscale consignment wedding shop? If you could have a great experience shopping for a dress with your friends and family in a really chic bridal shop., but pay $500 to $2500 for top designer wedding dress (Vera Wang, Amsale, Monique L. etc) because it was "worn once" aka luxury consignment ..would you buy a dress at this shop? or buy a new one at a wedding boutique for $4000 to $8000? (All dresses from happy brides, worn once, professionally cleaned etc)
What kind of earrings would go with this wedding dress? This is the dress I got for my wedding...it's on the vintage- side, which I love....any suggestions on earrings? Does anyone know about buying wedding dresses off online? I recently got engaged and have been spending time online looking for ideas for dresses and different things for my wedding. I recently found a site that has designer wedding gowns at discouhnt prices. Does anyone know of someone who has bought a wedding dress online or can someone give me some opinions as to if this is a good idea or not?
I need a different wedding gown.? I originally bought a $1,050 dollar Oleg Cassini Designer gown for my wedding this December 2008. We had planned to have a very formal wedding and have the reception and everything. But, recently due to unfortunate events in my family, we have decided to have a nice ceremony and skip the whole big wedding reception thing. After the ceremony we may go out to dinner just me and my husband and then for to the hotel and have our honeymoon. So, I need a different dress. Something not so flashy but something simple, elegant, vintage/glamour. The problem is I purchased the Oleg Cassini gown at Davids Bridal. They don't accept returns or exchanges. My dad bought my Oleg Cassini dress. But, I am no longer happy with it due to the change in the wedding... I feel bad because he spent allot of money on it. At most I am willing to spend $200.00 for a different dress. And I'll buy it myself. But, what do I do with my Oleg Cassini gown?? If anyone has any advice, I would really really appreciate it!! I need to figure this out ASAP!
Does anyone know where I can find a wedding gown similar to Eli Manning's wife?? I am looking for a wedding gown for my friend, she just went to David's Bridal and she did not see anything that was similar ( i personally am not a fan of DB) but she hates shopping so I said I would help her find it. I'm pretty sure Eli's wife's dress was specially made by the designer she works for-there must be some knock offs?
How Can I Tell Soon To Be MIL I Don't Want To Wear Her Old Wedding Gown? I bought my own wedding gown from David's Bridal and LOVE it. My mother and I aren't in close contact so I didn't ask to wear her's, nor do I want to. Anyway, my soon-to-be-MIL wants me to wear her old wedding dress, I don't. (A)My fiance's ex-wife wore it to their wedding and (B) I don't like the dress. Here is a picture: http://www.bkweddings.com/wedding-dresses/images/articles/renee_strauss_designer_wedding_dress-thumb.jpg Now, it's just not my style, I think it'd look nice on anyone but me. Plus, I'll be very pregnat then and this won't fit. How can I gently tell her? I don't want my fiance telling her, I want to start a good, honest relationship with her that doesn't involve me having him fight my battles. Thanks!
How much can you expect to get when you sell your wedding gown? I'm considering purchasing the designer gown I'm in love with, rather than having it re-made. How much can you/did you get back when you sold it after the wedding? My guess would be half, but I wanted others' input. Thanks! Yes, well obviously it depends on the condition, but for example, say it's in pretty good condition. No stains or tears, just light wear - a good cleaners could make it like new again? Blunt - That's really strange to hear because most of the gowns I was looking at second hand of eBay and such were over $1000 (they were designer).
Does anyone know how much a Vera Wang and a Carolina Herrera wedding gown cost? I have looked at their websites, but they do not show the prices of the wedding gowns. I would like to know an aproximate price range from these designers. Thanks! By the way, I'm not getting married, I have no expensive taste, I am not tacky!! This is for a research on weddings... but thanks anyway for all your additional comments.
Has anyone bought a "custom" wedding gown from China? I am wary of buying a gown from an eBay seller that posts only designer pictures, and not pictures of the actual dresses made by their company. Does anyone have photos of the dress they bought, and the original photo used in the ad? I am so worried about putting my hope and money into someone in China, when I don't know if the fabric or craftsmanship will be good quality. Has anyone had any bad experiences? Any great experiences? Thanks so much!
What do you think of this wedding dress? http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/vendor/designer/mikaella/detail/160543/?ff=Bride&f=Wedding+Gown+Designer%3AMikaella&max=Wedding+Gown+Designer&offset=9&page=1 I wanted a simple dress! I am not into anything to bold or glitzy. I don't want a busy dress with lots of lace and beading and designs. I thought for a "simple" dress this was really classy and pretty.

Is this dress "wedding-y" enough? http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/vendor/designer/jimhjelm/detail/127113/?ff=Bride&f=Wedding+Gown+Designer%3AJim+Hjelm+Bridal&max=Wedding+Gown+Designer&offset=23&page=3 I found this dress and it's perfect...my only concern is that I dont know if it really says "hello, Im the bride" enough. I know it doesnt have to, but Im not sure that its "wedding-y enough...if you know what I mean. Kind of like a perfect gorgeous evening gown isnt necessarily a perfect wedding gown. Again, as the bride I know I can do what I want and wear what I want...but I just wanted your opinions. Would you think this dress is inappropriate for an outdoor wedding? Side note: Im getting married outside in June 08. The gown I would buy is a sample (so it's $1450 instead of $3000)...and I have it on hold for the time being...but thats only for a few more weeks, if that.

what style bridesmaid dress suits my wedding gown? i am in love with my wedding dress, when i saw it i had to have it and now that i have it i am wondering how to coordinate my wedding party around it. the dress is very bohemian chic... as is our wedding, an outdoor evening reception filled with candle light at a beautiful mansion on the beach. what style bridesmaid dress do you think would compliment such a gown? please help! thank you so much. My dress: http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/designer/clairepettibone/detail/141333?f=217%3a1951&offset=2 thank you, but i am specifically inquiring about the style of a dress, not color.
Are these alternations possible on this wedding gown? This gown is the closest thing I have found to my perfect wedding dress: http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/designer/maggiesottero/detail/165966?offset=9&page=1 I'm wondering, as I have absolutely no background in sewing or alterations, if it is possible to make the following changes to it if I take it to an experienced seamstress? I found an online retailer that has a great price on the dress, but I don't want to buy it until I know that the alterations are even possible: 1. I want the skirt part to be a little more streamlined and not as pouffy. I like the bubble hem, I just don't want it to go out as much. Imagine taking a pen and just drawing two lines down the sides of the dress, cutting out a couple of inches on each side. There's also too much fabric in the back for me. 2. The ribbon on the bust ... can it be moved down to the natural waistline? I really dislike it right under my boobs. That's it really. Thanks for your advice in advance!
Has anyone purchased a wedding gown online? I live in Sydney and want to buy a designer dress online from the US. It's heaps cheaper than getting it from a bridal boutique here (about $1,000 saving), but I guess there are more risks involved, and obviously it's a big purchase so I don't want anything to go wrong. I know the style number and dress size I need, because I've tried on the exact same dress in the boutique. If you have any experience with buying a wedding dress online, I'd love to hear about it ... (unless it's really bad, in which case, break it to me gently!)
Wedding gown and bridesmaids' gowns...? I've picked out the wedding dress I want, but its designer doesn't sell bridesmaids' gowns. So, my first question is, do the bridesmaids' gowns have to match the wedding dress in style? I know that they aren't suppose to match exactly, that would cost way too much. But my dress has a mix of beading, lace inserts, draping, pleated waist, and bubbled hem with pick-ups. Here's a link to it: http://www.sinceritybridal.com/us_en/collection_popup.php?id=898&disc= Also, whether the dresses do or don't have to follow the same style, I need recommendations for designers who make plus size bridesmaids' gowns, like plus plus. Any ideas? oh yeah, all of my bridesmaid live in another state :( so it kinda makes things more complicated. (im in college in a different state than where they are located) Thanks to all of you who gave POSITIVE feedback. As for Luv2Answer and Lydia, you can both piss off. I didn't ask what you thought of my dress. I asked if the bridesmaids gowns had to go with it. It's our wedding, and I get to pick the dress that makes ME happy. I picked it particularly because I like how it's "busy" and how its not classic. I bet both of you are the type of people that would gladly go to a wedding, and then gossip about how everything is not up to YOUR standards. As for everyone else, thank you so, so much. There has been a lot of ideas given to me. I've looked at all the suggested dresses, all are beautiful. I've chosen the color - it's going to be the "Berry" color listed on David's Bridal's website. The seamstress idea was brillant for those of you who suggested it because my mom is one, but I don't thinks she's going to feel up for all that! lol Again, thanks so much. Check back to my profile to see my other wedding questions as I post them. :)
