I am making a wedding card gift box and want to make the box produce a paper shredder sound.? I am making a wedding card gift box and want to make the box produce a paper shredder sound when people place their cards into it. It is for a Halloween wedding. The box is actually a sort of haunted dollhouse. It is mostly built and would like some sort of contraption that will capture and reproduce the sound when a card is put it. I imagine a speak and a light beam breaking system. Any recommendations? Needs to be fairly simple as I am not too knowledgeable with electronics. Thanks.

Where can I get a gift box - I bought a set of towels for a wedding gift and they didn't have boxes!? thanks for the ideas. I think the basket would look odd at a huge table full of gifts. This is going to be a very big wedding. Oddly enough, I bought the towels at Target (they are registered there) and they said they had *no* gift boxes! And no, I didn't buy washcloths, even though they were listed and would have looked cute with the towels (there are two colors - the hand towels contrast with the bath towels - but sheesh those washcloths are $9.99 each! I don't even have any so I couldn't bring my cheap self to buy them. Someone else will do it. . .

Do you think it's bad etiquette to take a boxed gift to a wedding? Would you be offended if someone brought a gift to your wedding? I was just reading on theknot.com's etiquette section. They were listing wedding guests' biggest etiquette blunders, and one of them was taking gifts to the wedding location (instead of having them shipped to the couple's address). They wrote: "Bringing anything bigger than a check is simply an inconvenience. When a guest arrives with a boxed toaster oven or bath towels, it means someone else will be driving around town delivering the goods post wedding. Be sure to include a shipping address on your registry so people can send gifts directly to you." I will be getting married in 8 days, and I am personally looking forward to seeing the gift table piled high with tulle-covered boxes -- it's festive. Yes, I know my dad will have to cart them home in his truck, and we will have to pick them up from him after we get back from our honeymoon. But how can one find a gift-bringer offensive? What do you think?
I received a regifted wedding gift - what do I do? Basically I got a mixer from one of my friends - a good friend. When I opened the actual box to remove the mixer, there was a wedding card from someone else addressed to her -- As if she put the card inside the box to remember who gave her the gift. Basically she regifted a gift. Do I say anything? Or do I just let it go?
What can i do for a special wedding gift? My boyfriend and I have been together for 8 months and its a very close family that I have become a part of. His sister's wedding is very special becuase it is the first of that generation and their mother passed away a few years ago. I really want to do somehting special for her but I can't think of what. I don't want to do the whole shadow box with the invitation thing, something touching. Any ideas??
How much in duties or tariffs will it cost to bring a $600 wedding gift into Belgium? It will be a box of pots and pans for the new husband and wife.
Cant recieve boxed, large wedding gifts at wedding...getting married in edmonton but live in Tulsa? i need to spread it by word of mouth to not recieve boxed wedding gifts at our wedding..i know i cannot write it on invites and i wouldnt anyway. There are always someone thatll bringa gift anyway, and we dont want to pay a bunch of shipping costs. My fiance says whatever comes from his family (box gifts) he'll give to his sister, and whatever comes from my side cann go to my family...i really dont like this idea, because those gifts are for us, not to be selfish, but they are for the both of us, and i dont want to give OUR gifts to his sister or mine if we cant have them. I really hope nobody gives us anything...i said we can store them at our parents till we can find a way, but he still thinks that if it comes from his family he can do what he wants with it, and if its from my family, i can do what i want...im trying to get across to him that it doesnt matter WHO they are from they are for the 2 of us, and we should both decide what to do with them. How to go about this??
Is there a special number in Islam when giving a cash gift? Some cultures add a 1 like £21... or £51 and some hold numbers like 8 in high respect. Is there a custom in Islam as I need to give a wedding gift (the standard 'no boxed gifts' - cash please)?
Wedding gift...good friend getting married. What to do? this will undoubtedly sound far cheaper than i am when it comes to gift giving, but i feel it has come time i put a stop on my style of gifts in light of her actions. My friend (a best) booked her holidays and didn't attend when i got married. Otherwise she would have been my only bridesmaid. she came back and for my wedding gift got me a box of macadamia nut chocolates and a head tickler. i just received her wedding invitation, and i am now frustrated with what to plan for the gift. the effort seems to have fallen from our friendship, and in my financial situation, i honestly cannot afford anything too nice anyways, or it will hurt me financially. what to do? how to feel?
Looking for eco friendly wedding favour boxes...? I want to give my guests fall flower bulbs for favours- packaged in a nice, little gift box. I want chocolate brown gift boxes, big enough to fit 2 medium sized bulbs and some straw for packaging material. Do you know where in Canada I can get ECO FRIENDLY gift boxes, or where Ic an order them online and get them shipped to Canada? I need them in about a months time. Thanks!
Wedding invitation etiquette regarding "no gift box" request? My fiance and I are getting married in his country. Pretty much straight after the wedding, we plan to move back to the country we live in. We both know that any gifts his relatives might give us will be difficult to be carried back to our country. We're thinking of writing "no gift box" on our invitation card that encourage people to give money instead of gifts cos it will mean much more to us then. The thing is that we really dont know how to write it in a polite way and to write it in the way that people would understand and not getting offended by it. Please help!!! Any advices is appreciated! THANKS
Where to buy a glass front wall hanging shadow box for wedding goblets? We were given some nice engraved goblets and cake servers as wedding gifts last year. I would like to put them in a glass front shadow box but can't find one to fit anywhere! I've tried the usual stores like Michael's, JoAnnes, Target, etc. I even tried searching online. The box would need to be 13 inches tall by about 15 inches wide and 2 3/4 or 3 inches deep. I would like it to have a glass front. I saw a few that were over $100 bucks...but I'm sure we can do better than that!
What wedding gift did you receive but have never actually used? When I got married 3 years ago, I got a lovely creme brulee kit that, to this day, remains in pristine condition in the box in which it came.
Wedding Card Boxes what is the etiquette? What is the proper etiquette for these? Are you suppose to have one on your gift table or not?
Anyone know where I can find gift boxes like this online? It seems like all of the ones I find are 2"X2"X2". I want them more like 4"X"4"X4". 2" is way to small. I want the ones with lids like the link below. http://www.giftfavors.com/wedding-favors/Pink-italian-favor-boxes.jpg I've already looked at Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics, Craft stores, Dollar Stores, etc. I'm looking to purchase about 50.
The wedding anniversary gift? Bob was in trouble. He forgot his wedding anniversary. His wife was really p!ssed. She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE !!" The next morning he got up early and left for work. When his wife woke up, she looked out the window and sure enough there was a box gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. Confused, the wife put on her robe and ran out to the driveway, brought the box back in the house. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. Bob has been missing since Friday.
What does it mean when a wedding invitation says "No boxed gifts?"? I am going to my friend's wedding and it says that in her invitation. What does that mean? Does it mean they expect money? My parents thought it was rude too. When I was getting married, we made sure that we did not mention gifts in the invitations in any way.
Is it wrong to get a wedding gift from the Dollar Store? I went to the Dollar Tree and got some cute stemware glasses and huge pasta bowl as a wedding present, then I put the items in a Pottery Barn box and bag..... am I evil????? Apple21, you gave me an idea for a baby shower.. I think this time I'll use my Williams&Sonoma bags...

1st Wedding Anniversary gift for husband in Iraq? I was wondering if anyone out there had any good ideas for an anniversary gift for my husband in Iraq. For his B-day I made him a b-day cake out of styrofoam with a jack in the box inside that popped out with a picture of me. I would like to be able to make him something sentimental for our 1 year wedding anniversary! If anyone has any thoughtful ideas for what I could make him please share! Thanks
Money as a wedding gift in UK/USA? I've noticed some strong views on requesting money instead of a gift at weddings... What i want to know is-these people with strong views- are you in UK or America? The reason I ask is because different areas obviously have different ideas. In my experience (I'm in UK) I have received many 'gift lists' which request money instead of a toaster as the couple may have already set up house and struggled to do so.Some ways have been to list things they want to do on the honeymoon, and I was happy to know that I paid for a meal for my friends one evening, rather than gone and picked some towels they don't even need. These people are my good friends and were very grateful. They are also the people who will be invited to my wedding and I too will be making similar requests- I'd rather know I'm on my way to saving for a much needed new bathroom than wade through boxes of toasters we don't need. What is wrong with that? Its not a demand, its an idea for people and totally OK in my area/friends/family I think the people who are so against it and would be offended by it- are totally missing a point-as one of you said, its a custom not an obligation. Of course its a custom, who said its an obligation??? The fact of the matter is when you get married MOST guests are going to want to give you a gift of some sort. What is so wrong with maing it easier letting them know what you want/need most? Its not TELLING anyone to give you money, its telling people that that is what is most useful. Sure we'll get nasty tacky presents that have been carefully selected from the pound shops from some people (well maybe not as my family/friends are much kinder) but at the end of the day, these are the same people uncles auties etc who could never be bothered choosing me a gift at birthdays and stuck a tenner in a card- obviously didnt offend me- or them. I was thinking it was down to culture differences and hoping answers against were from USA. MAybe they're just people who don't get invited to weddings
wedding card money box? where can i find a nice cheaper wedding card gift box? i don't want to spend like $50 on one..
Wrapping a large sized wedding gift?? I have bought a toaster oven as a wedding gift for my friend's son. But how should I wrap it? The box is quite big, and I don't have wrapping paper that will cover the entire box. What other alternatives should I use? Other ideas?
What is an appropriate amount to give as present for a wedding? One of my friends invited me to her wedding but on the invitation says "No boxed gifts" probably because after the wedding she will be moving to another state. I was thinking about giving her money (cash), or a gift card for a national retailer on a congratualations card, but I don't know what would be best, well mannered or how much. Any suggestions?? How much should I give her?? I was thinking $50 is that too low?
What are you doing of a wedding card holder for the gift table? Anything creative? I thought about a basket but I think it's a little dull...... I don't feel like looking for a bird cage. The cater is a rip off for renting them. I refuse to pay $50 for something that is used once no craft store premade stuff. I tried borrowing one and was actually given something but it turned out to be a rusty old mail box covered in satin with stuff hot glued to it- YUCK. I could make a satin box but I want to see what other people were doing first. If you can think of something that is reuseable that would be wonderful!!! It's a fall wedding- colors a brown and pink. I am not doing a "theme" thing just fall and wedding :)
Small boxes/bags to put slices of wedding cake in - where do i buy them in the uk? I need to send slices of cake in the mail to people who aren't able to come to my wedding but have given us gifts. Where in the uk do i buy such things? I can't think of anywhere to get them? Also, small bags for them too, for the people who i can give them to (ie - work colleagues) thanks in advance x

how do you ask for "money" instead of "boxed gifts" in a wedding invitation?/? Instead of boxed gifts, I want to know how to ask it properly and formally.
A wedding gift.? My brother is getting married on July 19th. He is eighteen as well is his girlfriend. Him and his girlfriend always buys me things so for there wedding I wanted to get them something for there home. There moving into our house.... and living in the downstairs apartment. I am only fourteen, so I can't spend to much on a gift. I am really clumsy, he isn't as clumsy but when he falls he brakes or sprains things, his girlfriend is extremly clumsy... I wanted to get him a first aid kind of thing... I can't afford the big boxes that has all the first aid things in it.... Can you tell me what all I should by to put in a first aid box. I already am thinking about: Bandaids. Neosporn. Advil/Tylenol. Anything else you can think about... If you think you have a better gift idea please tell.... Best Answer 10 points!!! My parents won't buy them anything because there building there home... and that is already alot of money, so I wanted to buy something on my own... I do plan on using store brand to make it cheaper..... For yvette Well I figured he would want to stay safe, so as soon as he comes back from his honey moon he wouldn't die, I know a bandaid won't help a broken bone but advil/Tyenol will make it better.
Need the ladies' help! Wedding Gift For My Bride.? For my bride, on our wedding day, I'm going to give her a jewelry box so that she can keep all the jewelry she wore on her wedding in this particular box. Since she already has the jewelry (her mom bought it for her), I was thinking of filling the box up with romantic/sexual coupons she could use (this coupon is good for one free back rub) that sort of thing. Can you think of any good coupon ideas?
Wrapping a wedding gift? I shouldn't say wrap, because i'm putting it in a bag, i just don't know how to do the tissue paper nicely. Does anyone have any tips...or even pictures would be amazing..thanks! :) (the bag is fairly big, nothing small. and i have two presents in there, which are both rectangular...in boxes.)
Can someone give me some gift box centerpiece ideas? I have a tiffany styled wedding cake with the three square layers, ribbon around each, with a big ribbon on top. I wanted to do some centerpieces similar to that, but I need some ideas. I wanted to incorporate them with floating candle centerpieces, not just by themselves. I have bought all different size boxes and tons of ribbon and wrapping paper, but don't know where to go from there. If someone could give me a visual, I'd appreciate it! P.S. I want to be different AND still stylish. Help!!!!!
First wedding anniversary gift for my husband in Iraq? My husband and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary apart because he is in Iraq right now. He and I are still going to be getting each other gifts and want to make the day special. I have no idea what I am going to get him. I need something that I can fit in a box to send to him. I send him packages about every other week and every month I send him a page I make for his scrapbook. So something besides a scrapbook and just a care-package. Any ideas would be a huge help. Thanks!
Recipies on candies or truffles for aqua & brown wedding? I'm planning on giving away boxes filled with chcolates as gifts for my wedding. I would like to make them myself. Wedding Gift for my Husband-to-be?!?!? Where can I find small gift boxes? Either online or a local store in town. The size I'm looking for is the kind that a wedding ring would fit inside of. It's just a box, nothing classy. I need them to put my favors in for my wedding. Thank you
Heartbroken because not included in family wedding. Feelings aside, I wish to give a 'classy' gift. Help! Hi there. So I hate the word "classy" but can't think of a better term to describe the type of gift I wish to give my sister for her wedding gift. She is a thoughtless cow & invited all of our immediate family (+ his) to their destination wedding. We have been close our whole lives (we're in mid-30s). I have had a chronic illness for a few yrs, which she hasn't acknowledged, & will probably try to use that as the reason she didn't invite, saying I can't travel (untrue). My family is out there for the wedding now & there will be a reception upon their return which apparently, I *am* invited to attend.I do not feel welcome to that either, (on fence abt going). Anyway, I still want to give her a gift. After all, she is my sister. I was originally going to give her a meaningful gift (memory book/photos) but my feelings now prevent me from doing that. I really would like to give her a box of poop but want to make a statement that I am the "mature one." Thoughts or ideas? I'm confused!! Y'all are the best!! I just was able to read all of your awesome ideas. I'm not too awake yet but once I'm more coherent I am going to re-read them and possibly make a decision (and stick with it!). I don't want to spend too much time thinking about her gift or her because it'll make me cry--today in particular since it's the day of the wedding. I'm going to just stay super-busy so I won't have time to be upset. It is too bad because I am happy for her to have found someone. Oh well...I'll post again later & thank you again for the great ideas. I took something away from each of your posts! It's funny because a lot of them were similar to things I have considered doing. But not all of them...definitely some new ideas...me likey! Thanks again =)
tricky question about money/wedding gifts...? Heres the thing, I know its extremely impolite and rude to mention you would prefer money over gifts, but thats just being honest. My fiance and I have been living together for almost 2 yrs and are getting married in Nov. I have heard if we dont "prefer" gifts we could simply not register at registries, but isnt it just as rude to receive a gift pretend you like it knowing you dont and that you are only gonna try and return it? the majority of people coming to our wedding is family and close friends, I have heard we could just put No boxed gifts on the invitations, but I dont want to seem greedy or rude, however we have 2 toasters and 2 microwaves 2 irons 2 of everything because he had his and I had mine ,the thing is we dont expect any gifts but would rather if people want to give gifts they give it in gift card form or cash...what or how is a good way to approach this "delicate" situation? Not going to have a bridal shower or even an elaborate honeymoon but will be having a baby in late March, would it be impolite to ask for things for the baby instead?
Appropriate attire for a wedding? And an appropriate gift? My female cousin is getting married. I don't have the money for a new dress. I was going to wear the dress I wore for my brother's wedding, a sleeveless black dress with a flouncy skirt that is cut to just above the knee that really suits me, but my mother and aunt (bride's mother) think I shouldn't wear it. It's the most formal piece of clothing I own. I suggested one of the two sundresses I bought last summer, but my mother doesn't think a sundress would be formal enough. I can't afford to buy a dress. Advice? And then there's the gift. My cousin wants money (she invited like 200 people for more of this, since she made it subtly known). I refuse to give her money. I hate doing gift certificates, and she didn't register anywhere. She's a woman in her early thirties with a child, so she doesn't need all kinds of stuff to start a household. I thought a nice gift would be a box of fine chocolates from the chocolaterie for her groom and her to share would be good. Thoughts? My mom said she might possibly see if she can find me something, but it's no guarantee. I have no female friends, and even if I did, I have a very unique shape with large breasts (36D), nice hips, and mostly small everything else. Most dresses that fit me on top are too loose otherwise. Oh, and one more thing. It is because she's greedy. She is a greedy, greedy woman, and a bossy, bossy woman (we kind of don't usually get along, but I'm going since I love weddings). And wine or something like that wouldn't be so good, because I don't know her personal tastes. I just know she's not allergic to chocolate, and most people like chocolate, and I thought it'd be romantic for them to share. The reason she wants money is she's going to Vegas soon. *sigh* Never said I didn't want to give her a gift. Said I didn't want to give her money.
Indian Wedding - Gifts? I have received an invite to my friend's forthcoming wedding - both the civil ceremony and the Indian ceremony. On the Indian ceremony invitation it states "No boxed gifts please". Whilst I know what it literally means, I'm very curious as to the reason behind not accepting gifts in a box? Can anyone enlighten me?
