I would like to display a wedding cake as the centerpiece on the guest tables.? The cakes would each serve around 10 and be part of the decoration. My problem is that we are having the tables pre-set with the dinner plate & I don't know how to get the dessert plates & forks to my guests. We are also having salad, but guests will put that on the main plate. If I put out dessert plates & dessert forks, how do I keep them from using those for salad?

What can you recommend for a private San Juan wedding? My fiance and I are going on a week-long honeymoon cruise that leaves San Juan, Puerto Rico docks at 10pm on March 2nd of 2008. We would like to get off our plane, go to a private area and have a brief wedding ceremony, eat a nice dinner in San Juan in our wedding garb, and get on the boat (still in our wedding garb). We want to keep this is simple as possible- NO fancy decorations, NO big wedding cakes- I'm even bringing my own boquet. I've been combing the internet for weeks and keep coming across the same issue- people wanting 1000+ just to coordinate- this doesn't include cost of beach reservation, officiant, and license arrangement. I'm so frustrated I can hardly stand it. We just want 30 mins- in and out- no muss no fuss. I can arrange my own photographer, my meals, etc. A question for PR locals- is it cheaper, do you think to start searching outside of San Juan? Can you recommend places? I would sincerely appreciate all info you can provide.

It should serve 30 people, I need a recipe for the icing using icing/confectioner's/powdered sugar. Preferably without shortening, don't know what it is or where to get it. What flowers are best for wedding cakes? Our colors for the wedding are different shades of peach and just some white here and there. Our cake is going to be peach colored and we are having peach rose petals. We actually want to use roses for decoration on the cake but we have concerns. I read some where that roses wilt quickly when not in water. I also read that you have to get special roses that are grown pesticide-free (or something like that). I'm wondering if you do have to get special rose and where do you find them? Also, how fast does the roses on a cake wilt? Can you tell that they are wilted? And if roses aren't the best choice for a cake what would be a would still go with peach and rose petals?

Wedding cake - Is $468 reasonable with no decoration for 50 guests? The restaurant I'm using for my ceremony & reception has an approved vendor list. I went to my cake tasting yesterday and it was fabulous! But, I'm asking for a very simple cake for 50 people. It will be 3 tiers. One 12" square, one 8" square and one 6" round on top. It will be white cake with raspberry bavarian filling and the outside will be white chocolate fondant with a butter cream layer underneath. The only thing I've asked to be added are the "dot" edge details. My florist will be decorating the cake himself with bombay orchids at the ceremony location since he'll be there decorating anyway but I have to pay $75 extra for that (on top of $1000 in flowers already) My price came to $468 with no details. Although they will deliver it for free and it will be added to my reception bill. Also, I won't have any cake cutting fees for using that specific bakery. If I go with another bakery, I will have to pay $2 cutting fee per person to the restaurant. She did say I would have leftovers and it would feed more like 72 people.

Can I put fondant decorations on a store bought cake? I am getting ready for my son's 1st b-day and have a great idea for his cake. It is too expensive for me to get the bakery to do the whole thing so i was thinking of getting them to make a 2-tiered round cake (like a small wedding cake) and having them ice it with whatever kind of icing the store uses...just all plain white. how come wedding cakes don't go bad if it takes couple of weeks to design? it normally takes a couple of weeks for a cake designer to finish designing and making the wedding cake...eg. frosting, decorations...etc. how come the cake doesnt go stale? do they put preservatives?

How much detail is too much for a wedding cake? I am a college student who is waiting to get married until a few years after graduation, so the wedding will not be happening until 2011. I have already found my dress though and bought it since the style has been discontinued. Our wedding will be in the fall and we are incorporating darker natural tones into the decorations. The dress I chose has a distinct floral pattern around the bottom edge and I am wondering how that pattern would look around the layers of my cake.
