What are some really good bakeries that do wedding cakes in Chicago and Chicagoland? I am currently living near Elgin and I'm getting married in a year. What are some good places to go and talk about a wedding cake? I would like to have a cheesecake for the wedding cake, but I need a really elegant and colorful cake. Could someone give me a good caterer around the area (maybe even a few) so that my fiance and I could go and have a meeting with them to talk about options. Thanks!
Where can I get a creative wedding cake near Sacramento, CA? I live in Sacramento, CA and am getting married at our local zoo. I am having an elegant wedding with a slight animal theme (in subtle ways). I am looking for a cake place that can make beautiful cakes but are also creative. Any suggestions? Also, I don't really know what to expect regarding prices - what do you think I should count on?
Wedding Cakes? I would really like a simple White Wedding cake, but I am having trouble finding any designs that don't include flowers or silver balls! Does anyone know of any websites with simple elegant cake pictures? Thanks
Craft kit for making a wedding gift card box? Does anyone know of a good online site where you can buy a craft kit to make a gift card box for a wedding reception? We want something simple and elegant, no "wedding cakes" or those with yards of lace and frills. Thanks!
Who knows where I can get some funding for my cousins wedding planning company.? I am a part of a 3 person team. We are all Black females ranging from 25-35 years old. We are trying to start a company called "The Wedding Chapel". We have incorporated as an LLC. Here's our concept: "The Wedding Chapel" will be a place where a couple can have an elegant wedding without breaking the bank. We will offer the complete wedding. Meaning that everything needed to get married will be provided by "The Wedding Chapel" all the couple has to do is find their outfits and show up. Somewhat like a chapel in Vegas, but with much more class. There are so many different people involved in making a wedding happen. i.e. photographer, cake decorator, wedding planner, caterer, limousine company, florist and so on. If one of those people does not do as they should the wedding could be a disaster. In addition to that there is a tremendous amount of planning and coordinating involved. At "The Wedding Chapel" everything is controlled by us. There is no ball to drop. Many times prices are so inflated that the couple who is so excited about their big day, has to scale back. There is no good reason for the drastically inflated prices. So we are providing and answer to that. Our Motto is: "Your wedding doesn't have to be limited by what's in your wallet." Our Mission Statement is: To completely provide an elegant wedding ceremony and wedding reception experience at an affordable price. Our Goal is to relieve the pressures of wedding planning and to provide and answer to financial limitations. The Challenge is: To always go above and beyond the customers expectations. To always give quality service regardless of the client or compensation.
I need help choosing a wedding cake design- can you help? I would like a simple 3-tier cake- most likely white or ivory color. The cake topper will be the Precious Moments Bride and groom. I was thinking of putting some flowers in between the tiers and around the cake topper. I need to find a picture of an elegant cake so I can show the baker exactly what I am talking about. Can anyone help and send me links to some cakes?
An elegant wedding for less than $5K? I'm getting married next spring and am looking for tips on how to have a small, elegant and inexpensive wedding. We will probably marry at my old college...the setting is exquisite. We might skip the cake and my dress is going to be a bridesmaid dress instead of a big cupcake of a wedding dress. Any other suggestions? Thanks!!
Any elegant cake toppers other than mongrammed? I would love to find something to go with my January Old Hollywood feel wedding that is elegant and sparkly, but no monograms. I've waded through at least 30 sites so far and either they only have the cheesy bride and groom, or the price is well over a hundred dollars. Any suggestions?
how do you "elegant" up a cake? like how do u add those fancy flowers on the top of wedding cakes? and how do u add ribbon? and all that? basically, my cake CANNOT BE ANY PLAINER. any tips and ideas are helpful, muchos gracias!
Does anyone else think Better Crocker tastes better than fancy wedding cakes? Call me crazy, but I think Bettery/Pillsbury/Duncan Hines come out richer and moister than most big function cakes. I am not sure if it's harder to preserve the flavor in large cakes or what? Perhaps their milder taste is supposed to be more elegant and upscale. Not sure. It's also possible from working at a function hall for many years, that I've officially OD'd on wedding cake and just can't deal anymore. :) she is old now I've had cakes from some nationally acclaimed bakeries in our area, and Betty was still better for me.
I am trying to find somone to make zombie characters of me and my boyfriend for out wedding cake? Now I might sound crazy but I am kinda doing this behind my boyfriends back. The cake itself is black because they will resemble his black drums. He likes chocolate cake. I plan to have a very elegant wedding but with a few unorthodox structures. He loves zombie movies so I thought I should find someone to make us look like zombie characters for on top of the cake. The cake itself will be stacked to look like three drum toms, with red roses and pearly traditional lines. Well you know those candy pearl things on it to. I guess I am trying to please him but thats what I would like. Someone please help me.
Wedding Cake Help!? My aunt is getting married on August 23, 2008. She has asked me to make her wedding cake, giving me barely 8 months to plan and practice. I love baking, but I've never done anything that even comes close to this. Ive been looking around online for help, but i just wanted to ask you guys for help :) So, how much practicing do you think is necessary? She wants a simple yet elegant cake, nothing crazy or over the top. I dont think she wants any strawberry or fruit flavored filing or anything. There are going to be between 110 and 130 guests, so how big should the cake be? If anyone has an good recipes, tips, whatever, any info would be great! Thanks!

wedding dinner menu? I want to do a sit down dinner with servers, i know that can get super expensive, but.. i dont have all that much money. what are some good yet simple and possibly a little on the cheaper side menu ideas. I know we both want fried green beans, those are our favorite food. what can we have to compliment those. we are also going to do a fruit/cheese/veggie table with a chocolate fountain and punch fountain and have 3 cakes, one of which is a surprise he doesn't know about. my wedding cake is red velvet and his will be probably something lemon. his favorite. we are doing black and white with a little pink (in the flowers, mini calla lillies, pink and white hydrangeas.) i want the food to match the elegant simple wedding. if that makes any sense.
Cake business names? I'm opening a cake business, that offers elegant wedding cakes and fun party cakes. Our cakes are gorgeous and classy and I want a very mod name for the business. Any suggestions? :)

Cost of wedding cake? How much should a wedding cake cost that will look elegant, taste delicious, and feed 200 people?
Casual/elegant picnic wedding? What inexpensive cold (mostly finger) foods to serve? so far I have thought of: cheese/ crackers fruit tray veggies/dip spinach dip and bread deviled eggs chicken salad croissant sandwiches cold fried chicken? tortilla rollups wine lemonade (plus pitchers of ice water) coffee cupcake cake pastries tiramisu small pies a few different cheesecakes anything else I should include/exclude? I would like to include things that I could make a day or two ahead of time. Does anyone have an idea about what this would approximately cost (mainly just the food - not desserts/drinks)? It will be for 60-70 people at a winery. I am having family help with the desserts/cupcake cake. Help, please! oh, I forgot, I think I will be having chocolate covered strawberries as favors on the table. I don't like favors and thought this would be an okay option. I'd like to do as much myself as possible, but would be open to maybe finding someplace to buy a few things ready-made, perhaps the sandwiches?
My daughter's wedding will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday July 7. Ceremony and lunch to follow will be at the same beautiful and elegant garden-like environment in a Crystal room. The open bar will serve juices, soft drinks and wine right after the ceremony. Champagne will be served by waiters inviting the guest to take their seats for the toast to be given. Lunch will follow, and wine will be served at the tables. At the time of cake and desserts , coffee, tea, and water will be served. Her fiance and her are now suggesting to re-open the bar after dessert, and to include beer, before and after the meal. I find beer to be inadequate for the very elegant wedding settings. The party is to be over at 2 p.m. I feel that we need to assume responsability for people not to leave light headed in the heat of the summer and avoid any accidents. Drinks before and during the really sumptuous meal should be more than sufficient. I find no necessity to reopen the bar, and find beer to be distasteful for the elegance provided. Can you please advise us. Thank you Mother of the bride.
what Wedding flowers do i need? backyard vow renewal wedding and cake and punch reception. what sort of flower arrangments do i need? I want everything to look spring but elegant any ideas or pictures would be great. Green is my wedding color not sure of a second color yet so anything is wonderful.
The outdoor wedding reception: Any tips, suggestions, ideas, horror stories, success stories etc? I am STILL throwing around ideas for my wedding reception (our families range from being fairly elegant to super casual, which can make it difficult), but I am thinking of sort of an outdoor, picnic/BBQ in a park near a river. Very picturesque. Still, I am worried about cakes melting, bugs, decor, weather, you know the usual. Any tips, suggestions, ideas, horror stories of outdoor weddings, or success stories of outdoor weddings (mostly receptions) that you have heard of?
Any suggestions on a how to have a very chic but affordable wedding? My fiance & I just had our son. We want to have a small wedding with around 75-100 people next year on about a 10,000 dollar budget. My mom has a beautiful backyard so we have the venue covered. I'm not into the huge "party reception" I just want an elegant ceremony & a few hors derves & drinks to follow. My main priority is to have a beautiful gown, flowers, a gorgeous cake & invites. Any suggestions on ways to make it look lustrous & fantastic without going over budget? I'm open to any suggestions.
Need some tips on decorating the wedding dinner table? We are having a dinner after the wedding at a nice elegant resturant for about 30 guess. But I would like to decorate the table alittle more but what things could I do to make it a little more nice. My colors are lavendar and white. I already bought some lavendar colored candles with clear glass candle holder and I was going to be a white ribbon around the glass and light them and put then out the on the table. The table will be in a "U" shape. I will also have the favor out on the table in front of each chair. What else could I do? The cake will be off to the side on a round table, what could I do with that? Any ideas that are too expensive.

Gay Wedding Cake Toppers? Does anyone know where I can find gay wedding cake toppers? NOT two identical men just standing next to each other. I want an interaction between them. And I want it to be classy. Is it out there?! Thanks Something like this, very elegant and beautiful, but for two men. http://www.tableandhome.com/prodhbccf
Future MIL is ruining my wedding...suggestions??? So I love my future MIL, but I need her out of my hair. I've dreamed of my wedding day since I was a kid, I just want a nice, simple, elegant wedding, but she thinks she can walk in and change everything. I understand this is her only son, and probably won't go through another wedding, but they're not paying for ANYTHING, we are. I do want her help, but she has to complain about EVERYTHING-the flowers, my dress, the cake, our colors, the venue, my bridesmaids, even the date that we've had planned for a long time. She even found the outfit that she wants to wear, and thinks that we need to pay for it...it's $350!! Almost as much as my wedding dress alone costs. I'm absolutely refusing to pay for it, it's ridiculous and we're not paying for my parent's clothes, they're paying for it themselves, and it's not like the in-laws are poor, they're definitely not. I just feel like she's ruining all my excitement. I've asked her to back off nicely, how do I tell her I don't want her help anymore
Can you help with my small wedding? Ok, I have two years to plan a small wedding. It seems easy enough, but it isn't. I have a few questions: 1. How many tiers on a cake will we need for 50-60 people? 2. Should we have a registry or not? I don't imagine me getting a bridal shower, but I might. 3. It's a destination wedding, should we pay for rooms? 4. Should we keep our original bridal party or trim it down? I'd like to keep it but there are 6 bridesmaids and 6 groomsmen and I don't want this to look too tacky... Should we take 2 of each and have them be ushers and hand out programs instead? 5. Would it be weird if I bought my dress online? I've found a very reputable seller and my mom loves her work! 6. Any tips for a small, intimate, but very elegant wedding? It's a fall wedding so any decor ideas are welcome too! Our wedding is going to be in a really old church in North Carolina. It's a pretty church but I forget what it's called... If I find the pamphlet I'll post the name of it!
Any cheap ideas for a wedding in Fall 2009? My fiance and I are having our wedding in October 2009 and are using persimmon (redish/orange) and gold as our two main fall colors with hints of brown and greens. We want our wedding to be very fallish so we have already bought silk leaves (which will be used on each side of the aisle and on our tables at the reception) and have ideas of what we want for our centerpieces (floating candles). His aunt is making our wedding cake and my church is preparing the meal (traditional Thanksgiving meal) so these things are covered. Our favors...we have no idea what to do as we are having 150 guests to make favors for. We know we don't want to use any food products so maybe candles or something. Anyways, if you have any simple but elegant ideas please let me know. I can't wait to hear from all of you. P.S. Incase this matters my dress is ivory and my bridesmaids are persimmon. My fiance is wearing an ivory tux and his men are wearing brown tuxes.
black and white wedding? my wedding dress is white with a hint of black. i am going to have a red rose hair peice in and my flowers are going to be red roses with a white rose in the middle. my brides maid dresses are black with white and red roses as their bouquet and with a white flower pinned in their hair all their hair will be pinned back. I have had some negative comments and thoughts on my wedding plans. my cake is black and white with a few red accents. i wanted something simple and elegant. is a black and white wedding over done?
**THE NOTEBOOK (movie) Wedding** Any suggestions for ways to incorporate the time and setting of the movie? My fiance and I LOVE the movie "The Notebook" and would love to have some things that remind us of that time period and setting in our wedding. We want to have it in the country with a country feel (but not gingham check tablecloths and lots of sunflowers). More elegant, but still a country feel. Probably outdoors at sunset, lots of candles, maybe mason jars with candles in them hanging from the trees. My favorite color is blue, especially aqua blue and turquoise. Any other ideas for how to pull this off, including invitations, attire, decorations, favors, cake, etc. Anything that reminds you of "The Notebook". We don't want to go so far as to quote lines from the movie, but just want the feel of that time and place. Thank you in advance!
Suggestions for a fall themed wedding? I'm having a fall themed wedding in New England in October...does anyone have suggestions for elegant floral arrangements, center pieces, or the cake? The colors are burgandy and ivory...

Wedding Reception without Dancing? The rundown: We are having our ceremony at an adorable white chapel in Corona Del Mar, CA (Newport Beach) and our reception at Sorrento Grille, an amazing restaurant in Laguna Beach, CA. We have the restaurant to ourselves as we are buying out the venue. The restaurant oozes ambiance...it is very elegant with muted lighting, which is wonderful because we won't have to spend as much on decorations. The Problem: The restaurant can accomodate 75 guests comfortably. Our target attendance is 70. We could fit in a VERY small dance floor, but it would be cramped and awkward. We want to keep everything traditional (cake cutting, toasts, flower & garter toss) but want to cut out dancing and keep the reception under 2 1/2 hours. I think this would be an awesome reception, but my fiancee is hung up on the "no dancing" element. What do you think? How true is the old addage: "People will only remember what you had at your wedding, they won't remember what you didn't"?
How would I make invitations out of cake? I'm turning 17 in 12 days, and I'm having my bday party during spring break (in April) at my house in ocala for 3 or 4 days, and I want to do something really cool for my invitations, which I plan to hand out on my bday.I was thinking about getting using the sheet icing bakeries use for wedding cakes and making tiny cakes for the invitations. But how would i get the information on the invitations without it looking bad?Obviously,I wouldn't write it out on the cake because there's a lot of info, since the party is out of town.I want it to look really cute and elegant. (If you don't know what icing i'm talking about, here's a pic: http://www.earlenescakes.com/Wedimages2/tiedyedallweb.jpg The cakes would be much smaller,a different color, etc, but this is just to give you an idea of what i mean,if you're confused.) I just found out that it's actually called rolled fondant icing.
Ideas for wedding stationary designs? Simple & tasteful? I'm going to be designing our wedding stationary (from the save-the-dates, to the whole invite to the thank yous and place cards) but I'm having trouble coming up with a theme or design that I can use in the wedding itself and reception as well. I'm a stickler for making designs match or following a pattern. Actually, I'm more than a stickler, it bothers me when there's an obvious pattern or theme and it isn't followed through all the way. I'm not an over-doer, if I picked roses I would not have rose-pattern napkins and rose-handled cake cutters, and rose-shaped confetti. But the cake would be decorated with roses, the flowers would mostly be roses, the design on the stationary would be roses, etc. Part of the problem I'm having with the design is that our wedding colors have changed. I originally picked fern, champagne, and ivory. But my fiancé wants to wear blue or purple. We haven't picked a new shade yet to replace champagne, because he's very busy with his senior research project for his BAF. So I don't know what kind of flowers we'll be using, etc. I want the design color to be primarily fern and I'd really like to design around some kind of plant. I love orchids and lily-of-the-valley but because of expense we're probably not using them in the wedding. I was thinking of going with the design of a fern plant, but I'm seeing that done a lot recently and I want my design to be a little more unique. I considered designing something that reflects our interests, but most of those wouldn't make for a simple and elegant invitation. Thinks we like to do: cook, hard-core hiking, play video games, read, watch sci-fi telly and movies, and play chess. Any one have any suggestions? I don't have to put out the save-the-dates til January, so I have three months. But the sooner I design something, the sooner I can start printing and hand-writing the envelopes (I can do calligraphy). What do you guys think of a design using fiddlehead fern? http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=fiddlehead+fern&btnG=Search+Images
How do I get my future MIL out of my hair???? So I love my future MIL, but I need her out of my hair. I've dreamed of my wedding day since I was a kid, I just want a nice, simple, elegant wedding, but she thinks she can walk in and change everything. I'd understand her having some say if she was paying for something, but she's not, my parents are paying for 1/2, and we're paying the other 1/2, but she thinks for some reason this needs to be about her. She has to complain about EVERYTHING-the flowers, my dress, the cake we want, our colors, the venue, my bridesmaids, even the date...that we've had planned for a long time. She even found the outfit that she wants to wear, and thinks that we need to pay for it...it's $350!! Almost as much as my wedding dress alone costs. I'm absolutely refusing to pay for it, my parents are getting new outfits, but they're paying for it themselves, and it's not like the in-laws are poor, they're definitely not. I've asked her to back off nicely, how do I tell her I don't want her help anymore?

My fiance and I have been looking for cake toppers for our wedding cake, we don't want flower, we don't want plain, we really do want something ... we'd been looking for dorothy and scarecrow wedding cake toppers (even if we have to buy seperates) but nothing has really caught our eye..... This was the closest we've come too...but im still not sure these are want I want Dorothy http://www.annshallmark.com/product_details.php?product_id=104821 Scarecrow http://www.annshallmark.com/product_details.php?product_id=104822 It doesn't even have to be wizard of oz....i just wanted something pretty or different... ive seen all the comical ones! Our cake is a three tier round cake it will have a band of black ribbon around the bottom of each tier and pearls against the ribbon... then roses staggared on each tear... so im thinking the wizard of oz might not be 'elegant' enough..but we both love the wizard! :) any ideas on cake toppers would be great! ms.kkd -- i saw that last night and I WANTED IT...but it wont sit on the cake ! LOL Green Eyes...we thought about monograms but neither one of us like them lol... we're being difficult i know! lol marcopolo! Any money saving ideas? I'm engaged :-) However, we don't have a lot of money to spend on a wedding...which, I never wanted a big wedding anyhow. So, here's what my mom and I are thinking.... 1. The wedding is outside on my family's farm. There is a huge pond (more like a small lake) that is surrounded by flowers and trees and the like. It's very beautiful. I figured we could have it around that area. 2. My grandmother who is a fantastic cook has always wanted to make my wedding cake. Well, she actually wants to make all the food. Though she probably won't let me, I'm going to try and buy the food which will be simple but elegant and not cost much at all. 3. My grandmother (not the one who will make my cake, but my other grandma) and I will make my dress. I'm good at drawing and designing, she is great at sewing and putting it all together. So, all that will cost is the material. I'd like for the wedding to be in the evening. I also want it very casual (jeans and t-shirts for the guests would be fine as far as I'm concerned)....just have a big bonfire and those light lanterns you stick in the ground. Blankets and chairs spread out. The men will probably bring their guitars and play music. How does that sound? So, do you have any money saving ideas? I have no idea what I'm going to do for decoration...probably not much considering the area is pretty as is. But, I want to spruce it up a little. Just any general advice is appreciated! Thank you.
Which Site? Site A -45 mins away -large room that can fit up to 300--very nice decor/up-to date -cocktail hour, open bar, 4-course sit down dinner. Dessert -Use of bridal suite -Linens, Flower Centerpieces and Wine at each table is included. Cost: $70 a person Site B -25 mins away -room fits 150 -cocktail hour, open bar, 2-courses sit down dinner. No Cake provided -No bridal suite -Silk Floral Centerpieces included. -No modern attire (not a horrible place. But, a little early 90's New Jersey style wedding decor) Cost: $65 a person. Site A is very well known for it's elegant ambiance and excellent food. It's a big far, but it's a good deal with LOTs for food. I'm just worried if there is any traffic 45min could be over an hour. Site B is OK if you get to use a large room. We have 130 guests. So, we get the smaller room. I'm worried the food will be thin-especially with only 2-courses. But, it's closer. Thoughts.
Im having a hard time making a decision about our renewal of vows.? Well we know were going to go to Vegas.. We know we want an Elvis impersonator the renewal. What were having a hard time deciding is the type of ceremony that we want. Weve found some really great packages. Traditional: Long dress, tux, photos, first dance, toast, cake Blue Hawaii: Wear really loud hawaiian shirts, barefoot, and a hula girl. Pink Caddy: Ive never ridden in a pink caddy before. Well it's gotta be with Elvis. We want something, fun, unique, romantic. Just the two of us. No family will be invited. And please I don't want to hear that is so "tacky" comments or you had your day comments. Our wedding day was a disaster, and I cried for most of it. Anyone out there have any positive experiences in Vegas they would like to share? Ive been to few weddings there, and they were all elegant, tasteful, and well put together.
Can anyone suggest any food? We are hosting our wedding at our home and catering for it ourselves. I know it will be a lot of hard work.....I have my sister coming to help me prepare. I need some suggestions of elegant finger food that will be easy and quick to prepare, but still be classy. We have a gas oven, a microwave and the use of a bay marie. So far I have decided to get two big cheese and cold cut platters, a platter of sushi rolls, bbq chicken drummettes in plum sauce, vol au vonts, pasta with a bolognaise, meat sauce, cob loaves filled with crab meat.........any other suggestions that take minimal preparation? Oh and we are having the cake as a dessert along with some pavlovas and strawberries.
Looking for a Bridal Cake Knife and Server set? If at all possible, could someone point me toward a set? I'm having a military wedding...red white and blue theme...patriotic but elegant. I haven't seen any with these colors incorporated into the server set...and I need to find some engravable toasting flutes to match the server set....
Choice of Two Reception Sites? Which One? Thoughts. BTW, no Out of Town guests. We all live local. Thanks for the judgement Julie. Most places START at $90-$100 a plate. $65 and $70 is a STEAL Plus, you assume I want a princess wedding......WELL......where I'm from this is typical wedding Guest EVERY couple I've known at the last 6 weddings is looking to be royality.
just asked this...dont think it was easily understood? i will invite 150-200 guests to my wedding between my fiance and i. is that too small of a wedding for me to have a large flowing gown and a decent sit down meal and a horse w/ a carriage and a very small simple firework show. (ie sparklers when we exit) i dont want one of these over the top celebrity like weddings just something simple and elegant but what is too much to spend for so little guests? (i can do it for aroudn $5,000 not including the dresses. i no a man who has a horse and carriage and is willin to do that as a gift. my uncle owns a limo service which will b for my wedding party at a very reasonable price. my fiances mother is a professional cake maker whatever that is a pastry chef or something, my accountant and mothers friends husband is a hobbyist photographer all these ppl r good at what they do and i entrust them w/ my wedding so i have alot of costs cut for me.)
photography question? Problem: An evening wedding reception. The beautiful white cake (with elegant white icing seashells) sits about 6-8' from the white wall. All you have is the digital camera with built-in flash. However, here is your problem: Without flash nothing shows, it is way too dark! With flash (and you have tried several settings) the whole cake looks washed out. You can see no details. Below are the settings you have on your camera. What would you do to get a good picture of this beautiful cake. ISO: Auto, 100, 200, 400 White Balance: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten Exposure: + Auto - Quality: High, Normal, Low
Cake Topper (update to question from earlier)? Well if I don't do wizard of oz cake topper, i want something elegant, I am incoorporating the wizard of oz into my wedding...i'll be wearing the ruby red slippers...no one will see them until the garter toss. I'd like something elegant if I can't have my oz topper :) older - i saw WICKED...it's totally changed my outlook on the Wizard of Oz! lol :) LTD Poppies would be cute but i'm using roses on my cake... for those who didn't read my earlier question my cake is three tier black ribbon on the bottom of each tier and a string of pearls on that ribbon red roses staggared on each tier :) heres a link to the shoes im wearing, The red ones are kind of hidden but you can see them! :) http://flickr.com/photos/chesneydevine/2138201161/ just so everyone knows , i've not been giving thumbs down to anyone! I don't do that unless an answer is obnoxious or mean
