Is a wedding band with a thinner back side poorly made? I found a custom wedding band at a jewelers and haven't seen anything similar - it's platinum, 2mm along the front (with diamond fragments inlay - under 1/4 karat), and thinner along the back. I'm concerned about the durability of a ring that's under 2 mm. I read somewhere that rings that are thinner along the back can be poorly made (since it's a way to use less metal). When I described the style to another jeweler he said it was an old-fashioned look, but I find the look of the contemporary wedding bands to be very plain.

I'm under the impression that the ring is the fancy one with the jewels and the band is like a second ring without jewels. Is this correct? Wedding band engraving...? My engagement ring has a 2mm band, and I have seen ladies with similar rings match it with a 2mm wedding band.
